Asunción (, , , Guarani: Paraguay) is the capital and the largest city of Paraguay. The city stands on the eastern bank of the Paraguay River, almost at the confluence of this river with the Pilcomayo River. Olimpia Asunción
Club Olimpia is a Paraguayan sports club based in the city of Asunción. The club promotes the practice of various sports with most importance given to the football, rugby and basketball sides, the former being the highest priority and most successful. They were founded on July 25, 1902 by a group of young Paraguayans, and the name stems from the idea of its principal founding member, William Paats, a Dutchman based in Paraguay, who is considered the father of Paraguayan football for having introduced the practice of the sport in the South American country. Internationally, the club is referred to as Olimpia Asunción in order to distinguish itself from Latin American football clubs of the same name. Osvaldo Domínguez Dibb
Osvaldo Domínguez Dibb (5 August 1940 – 2 February 2024) was a Paraguayan politician, businessman and the president of Olimpia Asunción. Career Domínguez Dibb is mostly known for being the most successful president in the history of Paraguayan association football club Olimpia Asunción, Olimpia. He served as president for the terms of 1974 to 1990 and from 1995 to 2004. Under his presidency, Olimpia won a large number of national championships, but most importantly the club won most of its international titles such as three Copa Libertadores, the Intercontinental Cup (football), Intercontinental Cup, the Copa Interamericana and the Recopa Sudamericana. All the mentioned titles catapulted Olimpia as one of the most respected football clubs in South America. Horacio Manuel Cartes Jara (born 5 July 1956) is a Paraguayan businessman and politician who served as the president of Paraguay from 2013 to 2018. He is a member of the Colorado Party. Cartes owns about two dozen businesses in his Grupo Cartes conglomerate including tobacco, soft drinks, meat production, and banking. He was president of Club Libertad football club from 2001 until 2012, and had been the president of the national team department of the Paraguayan Football Association during the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification.
