Oscar Malbernat
Oscar Miguel ''Cacho'' Malbernat Candela (2 February 1944 – 9 August 2019) was an Argentine footballer, who was the captain of Estudiantes de La Plata between 1967 and 1972, when the team won a local championship in 1967, three consecutive Copa Libertadores titles (1968 to 1970) and one Intercontinental Cup (1968), where he marked Manchester United's George Best. During one of the 1970 Intercontinental Cup games, he ripped off Joop van Daele's glasses and trampled on them claiming that he was "not allowed to play with glasses". Before his retirement, he played for Boca Juniors in 1972 and Racing Club de Avellaneda in 1973. After his career Malbernat would become a manager at various clubs all over South America including his former club Estudiantes on two occasions and other clubs in Paraguay, Ecuador, Chile and Peru. La Plata
La Plata () is the capital city of Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. According to the , it has a population of 654,324 and its metropolitan area, the Greater La Plata, has 787,294 inhabitants. Club Universitario de Deportes, popularly known as Universitario or simply as La "U", is a Peruvian football club located in Lima. The club was founded in 1924 under the name Federación Universitaria by students of the National University of San Marcos but was forced to rename in 1931. 1968 Copa Interamericana
The 1968 Copa Interamericana was the 1st. edition of the Copa Interamericana. The final was contested by Argentine club Estudiantes de la Plata (champion of 1968 Copa Libertadores) and Mexican side Deportivo Toluca (winner of 1968 CONCACAF Champions' Cup). The final was played under a two-leg format in February 1969. In the first leg, hosted at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Estudiantes beat Toluca 2–1. The Copa Interamericana ( en, Interamerican Cup) was an annual club football competition contested between a representative from North America (CONCACAF) and South America (CONMEBOL). Established in 1969, it was discontinued in 1998 after CONCACAF clubs, particularly those from Mexico, began participating in CONMEBOL competitions. The 1968 Copa Libertadores was the ninth edition of the Copa Libertadores, South America's premier association football competition. It was played between January 27 and May 16. A record 21 teams participated in this edition. This edition brought the explosive debut of a humble team from the city of La Plata, capital of the Buenos Aires province, that did not find itself in the plateau of Argentine football. Joop Van Daele
Joop van Daele (born 14 August 1947 in Rotterdam) is a retired Dutch footballer who was active as a defender. Club career Van Daele joined the Feijenoord youth set-up in 1960 from local amateurs Overmaas and stayed with the Rotterdam giants until 1977. In 1970, he won the European Cup and the Intercontinental Cup. He scored the winning goal in the homematch, the return final of the latter tournament, against Estudiantes. He also had a short loan spell at Go Ahead Eagles and played for Fortuna Sittard before finishing his career at Excelsior. George Best
George Best (22 May 1946 – 25 November 2005) was a Northern Irish professional footballer who played as a winger, spending most of his club career at Manchester United.
