Orzubek Nazarov
Orzubek Nazarov (born August 30, 1966 in Kant, Kyrgyz SSR) is a boxer of Uzbek ethnicity, who won the bronze medal at the 1986 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Reno. He is a former WBA Lightweight Champion. Career As an amateur Nazarov was the World bronze medalist in 1986 and European champion in 1987 and had a record of 153-12. Pro The southpaw turned pro in 1990 in Japan, one of the six Amateur Elite boxers (including Yuri Arbachakov) scouted out of the old Soviet Union by thKyoei Gym He won the WBA lightweight title in 1993 in South Africa against Dingaan Thobela and defended it on the road against contenders Thobela, Joey Gamache and Leavander Johnson and two lesser fighters in his adopted home country. Dingaan Thobela
Dingaan Bongane Thobela (born 24 September 1966), is a South African former professional boxer who competed between 1990 and 2006. He is a world champion in two weight classes, having held the WBO lightweight title from 1990 to 1992, the WBA lightweight in 1993, and the WBC super-middleweight title in 2000. Professional career After compiling an amateur record of 80–3, Thobela, known as "The Rose of Soweto", turned pro in 1986 and won the WBO Lightweight Title in 1990 after beating Mauricio Aceves. After defending the belt three times, he relinquished the title and then challenged WBA Lightweight Title holder Tony Lopez in 1993, but lost a hotly disputed decision. Jean-Baptiste Mendy
Jean-Baptiste Mendy (16 March 1963 – 31 August 2020) was a Senegal-born French professional boxer who competed from 1983 to 2000. He was a two-time lightweight world champion, having held the WBC title from 1996 to 1997 and the WBA title from 1998 to 1999. At regional level he held the European lightweight title twice between 1992 and 1995. Professional career Mendy turned pro in 1983 and captured the vacant WBC lightweight title with a win over Lamar Murphy in 1996. He lost the title in his first defense to Stevie Johnston the following year. In 1998, he captured the WBA lightweight title with a decision win over Orzubek Nazarov. He defended the belt once before losing it to Julien Lorcy in 1999. He retired the following year.
