Orthrelm is an American avant-garde band from Washington, D.C. Biography Orthrelm is a duo composed of Mick Barr on guitar and Josh Blair on drums. Their songwriting style is mostly experimental, and shows the influence of avant-garde music as well as shred guitar and minimalism. OV (album)
''OV'' is an album by the experimental duo Orthrelm featuring guitarist Mick Barr and drummer Josh Blair. The band's second LP-length release, it was recorded in 2004, and was issued in 2005 by Ipecac Recordings. The album consists of a single, 46-minute track titled "OV". The work was debuted during live shows two years before being recorded. Regarding its origins, Blair recalled: "I came up with simple patterns, things that were almost symmetrical but not exactly... I crawled inside them to see what could come out of them." He described performances as "mentally and physically draining," and noted: "we focus on keeping the energy up through repetitive sections and thinking about the whole flow of the song." ''Norildivoth Crallos-Lomrixth Urthiln'' (also referred to as ''2nd 18/O4 Norildivoth Crallos-Lomrixth Urthiln'') is an album by the experimental duo Orthrelm featuring guitarist Mick Barr and drummer Josh Blair. The band's first LP-length release, it was recorded in 2001, and was issued in 2002 by Three One G. Reception In a review for AllMusic, Stewart Mason wrote: "there are elements of death metal in Mick Barr's ultra-shred guitar style and Josh Blair's neck-snapping tempos, but there's at least as much Sonny Sharrock and John Bonham, among other influences you wouldn't expect... Asristir Vieldriox
Asristir Vieldriox (sometimes spelt Asristirveildrioxe) is an EP released by the avantgarde band Orthrelm. It was released by Troubleman Unlimited Records in February 2002. Despite having 99 tracks on it (the maximum any CD can hold), each one is only 5 to 15 seconds in length, therefore making the entire release only 13 minutes long in total. Due to this it cannot be classed as an album but an EP instead. Each track mainly consists of quick and abrasive guitar lines with corresponding drum parts. There are no vocals. The style of this EP is best described as Abstract, Grindcore, Experimental and Avantgarde. Reception In a review for AllMusic, William York wrote: "this is constantly jarring, nerve-rattling stuff. Ipecac Recordings
Ipecac Recordings is an independent record label based in California. It was founded on April 1, 1999 by Greg Werckman (ex-label manager of Alternative Tentacles, ex-lead singer of DUH, ex-employee of Mercury Records) and Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantômas, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom and Mondo Cane) in Alameda, California. Originally the label was created for the sole purpose of releasing the first Fantômas album. Since then, they have gone on to distribute other artists like Melvins, Isis, as well as several of Patton's other projects and collaborations. The label is named after syrup of ipecac, an emetic, or vomit-inducing, medicine. Its slogan is "Ipecac Recordings—Making People Sick Since 1999." Three One G
31G Records, or Three One G, is a San Diego, California-based independent record label, started by musician Justin Pearson in 1994 and focusing on punk and experimental music. The label has released a number of albums and compilations in what has been described as "freak punk" and "spaz-rock." Musicians on the label frequently collaborate, creating supergroups such as Holy Molar, Some Girls, and Head Wound City. Three One G's roster has featured many noise rock bands. History 31G Records was founded by Justin Pearson in San Diego, California in 1994. The name comes from the chorus of a Joy Division song "Warsaw", a song covered by Pearson's then-band, Swing Kids. Tolotta Records
Tolotta Records was a record label run by Joe Lally of Fugazi. It was based in Arlington, Virginia and distributed through Dischord Records. The label has released bands from Washington, D.C. and the surrounding area, such as Dead Meadow and Spirit Caravan. The label was founded in 1994 and came to an end in 2002 when Spirit Caravan broke up and Dead Meadow moved to Matador Records. Mick Barr
Krallice is an American black metal band formed by New York City musicians Colin Marston, Mick Barr, Nick McMaster and Lev Weinstein. They play an experimental, highly technical style of black metal. The band has released twelve studio albums and three EPs, most recently the LP ''Psychagogue'' on June 17, 2022. They have been described as "one of the most interesting, engaging black metal bands to emerge in recent years" and "one of the most important bands in modern black metal".
