The Great Western Brewing Company, Original 16 Tour Bonspiel is an annual bonspiel, or curling tournament, that takes place at the Calgary Curling Club in Calgary, Alberta. Brock Virtue
Brock Virtue (born September 21, 1986) is a Canadian curler. He currently plays third on Team Charley Thomas. He is a former Canadian and World Junior Curling Champion. Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, raised in from Regina, Saskatchewan, Virtue's junior career involved winning two provincial junior championships, a Canadian championship and a World championship. He played in his first Canadian Junior Curling Championships in 2003 playing third for Darren Moulding. The team finished the round robin with an 8-4 record, tied with British Columbia. Aaron Sluchinski
Aaron Sluchinski (born March 24, 1987) is a Canadian curler from Airdrie, Alberta. He currently skips his own team out of Calgary. Career Sluchinski made his first national appearance at the 2008 Canadian Junior Curling Championships skipping his Alberta rink of Justin Sluchinski, Colin Hodgson and Tylor Bennet. The team finished with a 7–5 record, missing the playoffs and settling for fifth place. He would play in his first Boston Pizza Cup, Alberta's men's provincial championship, in 2012 as second for Kevin Park. The team finished with a 3–3 record in the triple knockout format, failing to advance to the playoff round. Sluchinski and his team had a great run at the 2013 Boston Pizza Cup, qualifying for the playoffs through the B Event. Tyler N. Tardi (born August 10, 1998 in Richmond, British Columbia) is a Canadian curler originally from Cloverdale, British Columbia. Career Juniors Tardi first came onto the national curling scene skipping the host British Columbia team at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, British Columbia where he would pick up a bronze medal. After losing in the British Columbia junior finals in both 2013 and 2014, Tardi and his rink of Daniel Wenzek, brother Jordan, Nicholas Meister, and Sterling Middleton won the 2016 British Columbia men's junior championship. The team represented the province at the 2016 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, and went 7-3 after the round robin portion, making the playoffs in third place. Jeremy Harty
Jeremy Harty (born May 22, 1995) is a Canadian curler from Calgary, Alberta. He currently plays third for Team Aaron Sluchinski. Career Harty competed in the 2016 Alberta Junior Curling Championships with his team of Kyler Kleibrink, Joel Berger and Gregg Hamilton. The team went undefeated until the final where they lost to the Karsten Sturmay rink 7–4. The next season, the team aged out of juniors and competed in their first provincial championship. In the triple knockout format of the 2017 Boston Pizza Cup, the team finished 3–3, being knocked out by eventual runner-up Ted Appelman. Team Harty returned to the provincial championship the following season at the 2018 Boston Pizza Cup, this time going 2–3 and being knocked out by Thomas Usselman. Tom Brewster
Thomas Brewster Jr. (born 10 April 1974) is a Scottish curler from Aberdeen, Scotland. He is currently the coach of the Ross Paterson men's team. Career Brewster is a former World Junior champion, having won the title in 1995. The Scottish team which consisted of Paul Westwood, Ronald Brewster, Steve Still and David Murdoch finished 8–1 after the round robin, and defeated Sweden's Henrik Edlund and then Germany's Daniel Herberg to win the championship. Brewster has skipped Scotland to two European Mixed titles, in 2006 and in 2009. Brewster has been a frequent participant in World Curling Tour events, perhaps more so than the more successful Scottish teams. He has won a total of six WCT events, all European events. Kurt Balderston
Kurt Balderston (born c. 1963) is a Canadian curler from Sexsmith, Alberta. Career Balderston is a former Canadian Mixed champion, having won the 1992 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. Since then he has played in four national mixed championships, in 1998, 2001, 2012 and 2013. He finished as the runner-up in 2012 and in sixth place in 2013, when Cheryl Bernard replaced his regular third Desirée Owen. Balderston won a sixth provincial mixed title in 2018 and will represent Alberta at the 2019 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. Balderston has also competed in the Alberta curling provincials multiple times. His best finishes were as the runner-up in 1991, 1992, 2002, and 2004. Steffen Walstad (born February 10, 1989 in Oppdal) is a Norwegian curler from Oppdal. He currently skips his own team. Career Juniors Walstad played in three World Junior Curling Championships, from 2008 to 2010 inclusive. At the 2008 World Junior Curling Championships he played third for the Kristian Rolvsfjord rink, finishing in 4th place. At the 2009 World Junior Curling Championships he played second for the team, finishing in 5th place. And at the 2010 World Junior Curling Championships, he played second for the Steffen Mellemseter, finishing 5th overall. Walstad has played in four Winter Universiades; playing in the 2011 Winter Universiade, he played third for Markus Høiberg, finishing 7th.
