Oregon Cartoon Institute
The Oregon Cartoon Institute is located in Portland, Oregon. It was founded in 2007 by Anne Elizabeth Richardson, dedicated to raising awareness of Oregon's rich animation and cartooning history. The OCI has produced projects on Mel Blanc, Harry Smith, Robert Crumb, James Ivory, Pinto Colvig, Lew C. Cook, James Blue, Joan Gratz, Homer Groening, and others. Anne Richardson died on October 14, 2020. The current board is chaired by Katherine Richardson. Members of the board are Laura Berg, Sebastian Heiduschke, Kira Lesley and Ellen Thomas. Recent events The OCI hosted its 6th Annual Oregon Film History Conference on Friday Nov. 20, 2020. Due to Covid, it was first online event the OCI has hosted. George Olsen
George Edward Olsen Sr. (March 18, 1893 - March 18, 1971) was an American bandleader. Born in Portland, Oregon, Olsen played the drums and attended the University of Michigan, where he was drum major. There he formed his band, George Olsen and his Music, which continued in the Portland area. The group's debut hotel engagement came at the Multnomah Hotel in Portland. He then made the cross-county transition to Broadway, appearing in ''Kid Boots'' (1923), the '' Ziegfeld Follies of 1924'', ''Ziegfeld Follies of 1925'', and '' Good News'' (1927). George Olsen and his Music were prolific Victor recording artists and their records are among the most numerous found by record collectors today, testifying to their original popularity. Chris Eyre
Chris Eyre (born 1968), an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes, is an American film director and producer who as of 2012 is chairman of the film department at the Santa Fe University of Art and Design. Films In 1998, Chris Eyre worked on two film projects. His first release was '' Things We Do'' (1998). His debut film, ''Smoke Signals'' (1998), won the Sundance Film Festival Filmmakers Trophy and the Audience Award. It also won "Best Film" honors at the 1998 American Indian Film Festival. Eyre's second film, '' Skins'', is the story of two brothers on the Pine Ridge Reservation, a tribal cop and a Vietnam vet battling alcohol and emotional problems. ''Smoke Signals'' is a 1998 coming-of-age comedy-drama film directed by Chris Eyre from a screenplay by Sherman Alexie, based on Alexie's short story collection '' The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven'' (1993). Gus Green Van Sant Jr. (born July 24, 1952) is an American film director, producer, photographer, and musician. He has earned acclaim as both an independent and mainstream filmmaker. Mission Theater And Pub
The Mission Theater and Pub is a movie theater and pub located in the northwest Portland, Oregon. Formerly a Swedish church and union hall, the theater was re-opened as a McMenamins establishment in 1987. The theater was known for featuring second-run films, until 2019 when a first-run operation was implemented, and for serving beer, wine, and food. John Canemaker
John Cannizzaro Jr. (born 1943), better known as John Canemaker, is an American independent animator, animation historian, author, teacher and lecturer. In 1980, he began teaching and developing the animation program at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts', Kanbar Institute of Film and Television Department. Since 1988 he has directed the program and is currently a tenured full professor. From 2001-2002 he was Acting Chair of the NYU Undergraduate Film and Television Department. Will Vinton
William Gale Vinton (November 17, 1947 – October 4, 2018) was an American animator and filmmaker. Vinton was best known for his Claymation work, alongside creating iconic characters such as The California Raisins. He won an Oscar for his work alongside several Emmy Awards and Clio Awards for his studio's work. Life and education Vinton was born on November 17, 1947, to a car dealer father and a bookkeeper mother in McMinnville, Oregon. During the 1960s, Vinton studied physics, architecture and filmmaking at the University of California, Berkeley, where he was influenced by the work of Antoni Gaudí. Oregon Center for Contemporary Art (also known as Oregon Contemporary, formerly Disjecta) is an art center in Portland, Oregon.
