Oregon's 6th Congressional District
Oregon's 6th congressional district is a congressional district created after the 2020 United States census. It consists of Polk and Yamhill Counties, in addition to portions of Marion, Clackamas, and Washington Counties. It takes in all of urban Salem, as well as the southwestern suburbs of Portland. The district elected a member of the United States House of Representatives beginning with the 2022 elections. There were originally sixteen candidates that entered in the race, more than for any other congressional seat in the state in 2022. Oregon House Of Representatives
The Oregon House of Representatives is the lower house of the Oregon Legislative Assembly. There are 60 members of the House, representing 60 districts across the state, each with a population of 65,000. The House meets in the west wing of the Oregon State Capitol in Salem. Members of the House serve two-year terms without term limits. In 2002, the Oregon Supreme Court struck down Oregon Ballot Measure 3 (1992), that had restricted State Representatives to three terms (six years) on procedural grounds. The U.S. state of Oregon has had six United States congressional districts since 2023, when the 6th district was created as a result of the 2020 census. The 5th district was added as a result of the 1980 census, and boundaries were redrawn following the population changes to each district as determined by the 1990, 2000, 2010, and 2020 censuses. Mike Erickson
Mike Erickson (born January 27, 1963) is an American businessman and perennial political candidate in the U.S. state of Oregon. He was the Republican nominee for the United States House of Representatives in Oregon's 6th congressional district in 2022. Previously, Erickson was the Republican nominee for Oregon's 5th congressional district in 2006 (losing to incumbent Darlene Hooley) and in 2008 (losing to Democrat Kurt Schrader). Life and career The son of a police officer, Erickson attended Portland State University where he was a placekicker and punter on Portland State's football team from 1985 to 1988, and ranks second on the school's list for field goals made with 32. The 2024 United States presidential election will be the 60th quadrennial presidential election, scheduled for Tuesday, November 5, 2024. It will be the first presidential election after electoral votes were redistributed during the 2020 census reapportionment cycle. The 2020 United States presidential election was the 59th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Tigard, Oregon
Tigard ( ) is a city in Washington County, Oregon, United States. The population was 48,035 at the 2010 census. As of 2007, Tigard was the state's 12th largest city. Incorporated in 1961, the city is located south of Beaverton and north of Tualatin, and is part of the Portland metropolitan area. Oregon's 5th Congressional District
Oregon's 5th congressional district represents Oregon's central coast through Salem, north to the southern Portland suburbs – including a sliver of Portland itself – and east to the summit of Mount Hood. It includes Lincoln, Marion, and Polk Counties; most of Clackamas and Tillamook Counties; and parts of Benton and Multnomah Counties. The district is currently represented by Republican Lori Chavez-DeRemer, who was elected in 2022 to replace Kurt Schrader who lost renomination. This marked the first time in the district's history that a new representative had the same party affiliation as the outgoing representative.
