Oregon's 53rd House District
District 53 of the Oregon House of Representatives is one of 60 House legislative districts in the state of Oregon. As of 2013, the boundary for the district includes a portion of Deschutes County, Oregon, Deschutes County. The current representative for the district is Democratic Party (United States), Democrat Emerson Levy of Redmond, Oregon, Redmond. Oregon House Of Representatives
The Oregon House of Representatives is the lower house of the Oregon Legislative Assembly. There are 60 members of the House, representing 60 districts across the state, each with a population of 65,000. The House meets in the west wing of the Oregon State Capitol in Salem. Members of the House serve two-year terms without term limits. In 2002, the Oregon Supreme Court struck down Oregon Ballot Measure 3 (1992), that had restricted State Representatives to three terms (six years) on procedural grounds. Ben Westlund
Bernard John "Ben" Westlund II (September 3, 1949 – March 7, 2010) was an American politician in the U.S. state of Oregon. A Democrat, he was elected State Treasurer in 2008. Previously, Westlund served in both houses of the Oregon Legislative Assembly, as a Republican from 1996 to 2006, as an independent from 2006 to 2007, and then as a Democrat. Westlund dropped his Republican party affiliation to run for Governor of Oregon in the 2006 election, but dropped out of the race in August. In December 2006 he became a Democrat. Westlund worked as a business analyst, and ran businesses in mining, ranching, and agriculture. Joseph "Jack" Zika III (born 1977) is an American politician from Oregon. A Republican, he served as a member of the Oregon House of Representatives for the 53rd district from 2019 to 2023. Early life and career Zika was born in Ohio and attended the University of Cincinnati. Career Zika worked as a securities trader and, immediately prior to his election to the Oregon House of Representatives, as a realtor in Bend. He previously served on the City of Redmond Planning Commission before being elected to the Oregon House of Representatives. Write-in Candidate
A write-in candidate is a candidate whose name does not appear on the ballot but seeks election by asking voters to cast a vote for the candidate by physically writing in the person's name on the ballot.
