Oregon's 18th House District
District 18 of the Oregon House of Representatives is one of 60 House legislative districts in the state of Oregon. As of 2021, the boundary for the district includes portions of Clackamas and Marion counties. The district includes Aurora, Hubbard, Molalla, Silverton, and Mount Angel. The current representative for the district is Republican Rick Lewis of Silverton. Election results District boundaries have changed over time. Oregon House Of Representatives
The Oregon House of Representatives is the lower house of the Oregon Legislative Assembly. There are 60 members of the House, representing 60 districts across the state, each with a population of 65,000. The House meets in the west wing of the Oregon State Capitol in Salem. Members of the House serve two-year terms without term limits. In 2002, the Oregon Supreme Court struck down Oregon Ballot Measure 3 (1992), that had restricted State Representatives to three terms (six years) on procedural grounds. The Constitution Party, formerly the U.S. Taxpayers' Party until 1999, is a political party in the United States that promotes a religious conservative view of the principles and intents of the United States Constitution. The party platform is based on originalist interpretations of the Constitution and shaped by principles which it believes were set forth in the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution and the Bible. 2018 Oregon Legislative Election
The 2018 elections for the Oregon Legislative Assembly determined the composition of both houses for the 80th Oregon Legislative Assembly. The Republican and Democratic parties held primary elections on May 15, 2018 with general elections on November 6, 2018. As a result of the elections, the Democratic Party expanded its advantage in both houses of the state legislature. The party gained one seat in the Oregon State Senate and three seats in the Oregon House of Representatives, bringing its advantage over the Republican Party to 18-12 and 38-22, respectively. 2016 Oregon Legislative Election
The 2016 elections for the Oregon Legislative Assembly determined the composition of both houses for the 79th Oregon Legislative Assembly. The Republican and Democratic parties held primary elections on May 17, 2016 with general elections on November 8. The Democratic Party maintained its 35-25 advantage in the Oregon House of Representatives while losing one seat in the Oregon State Senate to bring their advantage to 17-13 over the Republicans. The 2010 elections for the Oregon Legislative Assembly determined the composition of both houses for the 76th Oregon Legislative Assembly. The Republican and Democratic primary elections were on May 18, 2010, and the general election was held on November 2, 2010. Sixteen of the Oregon State Senate's thirty seats were up for election, as were all 60 seats of the Oregon House of Representatives. In the previous session, the Democrats held supermajorities in both chambers: 18–12 in the Senate and 36–24 in the House. Vic Gilliam
Victor Stephen Gilliam (July 21, 1953June 17, 2020) was an American politician and actor who served as a member of the Oregon House of Representatives from 2007 to 2017. A member of the Republican Party, Gilliam resigned in 2017 due to health problems. After serving as a legislative aide from 1976 to 1981, he unsuccessfully ran for a seat in the Oregon House of Representatives. In 2007, he was appointed to fill the vacancy created by Mac Sumner's resignation and served until his own resignation in 2017. Gilliam was also an actor who appeared in multiple television shows. Mac Sumner
Macon Ernest "Mac" Sumner Jr. (March 27, 1940 – May 7, 2007) was an American politician who served in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2005 until 2006. Early life Sumner was born in Sedalia, Missouri in 1940 and moved to Oregon at the age of seven. He graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School. He was in the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechanic. He served in Japan and was discharged April 30, 1963. Career Sumner was appointed to the Molalla, Oregon City Council in October 1997 and elected in 1998, and served as mayor of the city from 2001 until 2002. He remained on the city council until the spring of 2004, when he resigned to run for the House. Sumner won in the crowded Republican primary and was elected, defeating Democrat Jim Gilbert. Tootie Smith
Tootie Smith (born March 3, 1957) is an American politician and hazelnut farmer from the state of Oregon. A Republican, she served in the state legislature from 2001 until 2005, and on the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners from 2013 until 2017. She is just as pleasant as her name would imply. In 2019, she announced her candidacy for Clackamas County Chair. She won the election with 64,502 votes (53.22%). Biography Smith was born in 1957 in Oregon City.
