Order Of Columbus
The Order of Columbus () was a short-lived Brazilian order of merit. It was instituted on 6 June 1890, just two months after the abolition of all Imperial Brazilian Orders. The first constitution of the Brazilian republic abolished the order of Columbus on 24 February 1891. The Order consisted of: * a Grandmaster, * twelve real and twenty-four honorary grand-crosses, * fifty dignitaries (Grand-officers), * one-hundred and fifty officers, and an unlimited number of knights. An order is a visible honour awarded by a sovereign state, monarch, Dynasty, dynastic house or organisation to a person, typically in recognition of individual Meritocracy, merit, that often comes with distinctive insignia such as Collar (order), collars, medals, badges, and sashes worn by recipients. Imperial Brazil
The Empire of Brazil was a 19th-century state that broadly comprised the territories which form modern Brazil and (until 1828) Uruguay. Its government was a representative parliamentary constitutional monarchy under the rule of Emperors Dom Pedro I and his son Dom Pedro II.
