Order Of Cienfuegos
Cuba has named a socialist order, the Order Camilo Cienfuegos, after the freedom fighter and revolutionary Camilo Cienfuegos Gorriarán. The order is awarded to members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba. Either in the active military service, in the reserve or retired, and it was awarded to the military of "friendly countries" like the Soviet Union, for "extraordinary merit in planning or accomplishing combat actions, in defense of the achievements and sovereignty of Cuba". Statute The statutes of the Order of Cienfuegos mention specific circumstances where the order can be awarded. Article 1. The Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces ( es, Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias; FAR) are the military forces of Cuba. Hero Of The Republic Of Cuba
The honorary title Hero of the Republic of Cuba ( es, Héroe de la República de Cuba) is the highest decoration awarded by the Republic of Cuba. It is equivalent to other hero titles common in the Socialist Bloc. The decoration is physically represented with the Gold Star Medal ( es, Medalla Estrella de Oro), hanging in a gold plaque enamelled with the colors of the national flag. After World War II, communists came to power in many other countries and this type of order spread all over the world. Camilo Cienfuegos
Camilo Cienfuegos Gorriarán (; 6 February 1932 – 28 October 1959) was a Cuban revolutionary born in Havana. Along with Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, Juan Almeida Bosque, and Raúl Castro, he was a member of the 1956 ''Granma (yacht), Granma'' expedition, which launched Fidel Castro's armed insurgency against the government of Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. He became one of Castro's top guerrilla commanders, known as the "Battle of Yaguajay, Hero of Yaguajay" after winning a key battle of the Cuban Revolution. His signature weapons were a Thompson submachine gun, M1921AC Thompson and a modified M1 carbine, M2 carbine. He was appointed head of Cuba's armed forces shortly after the victory of Castro's rebel army in 1959.
