Order Of Australia (horse)
Order of Australia (foaled 18 February 2017) is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse. He ran fifth on his only start as a juvenile in 2019 and in the following year he showed promising but unremarkable form over long distances, winning two minor races and finishing fourth in the Irish Derby. In November he was dropped back in distance and recorded an upset victory in the Breeders' Cup Mile. Australia (foaled 8 April 2011) is an Irish-bred, Thoroughbred racehorse best known for winning the 2014 Epsom Derby. As a two-year-old in 2013, he won two of his three races, creating a very favourable impression when winning the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Trial Stakes, and was highly regarded by his trainer Aidan O'Brien. In May 2014 he finished third behind Night of Thunder (horse), Night of Thunder and Kingman (British horse), Kingman in the 2000 Guineas before winning the Epsom Derby on 7 June. He subsequently won the Irish Derby and International Stakes before being defeated by The Grey Gatsby in the Irish Champion Stakes. His racing career was ended by injury in October 2014. He is standing at Coolmore stud. International Stakes
The International Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain open to horses aged three years or older. It is run at York over a distance of 1 mile, 2 furlongs and 56 yards (2,063 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in August. History The event was devised by Major Leslie Petch, a former Clerk of the Course at York. It was first run in 1972, but by this time Petch had resigned from his position due to ill health. The race was originally sponsored by Benson and Hedges and called the Benson and Hedges Gold Cup. The inaugural running was won by Roberto, that year's Derby winner. The second-placed horse was Brigadier Gerard – his only defeat in a career of eighteen races. Blinkers, sometimes known as blinders, are a piece of horse tack that prevent the horse seeing to the rear and, in some cases, to the side. Leopardstown Racecourse
Leopardstown Racecourse is an Irish horse-racing venue, located in Leopardstown, Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, 8 km south of the Dublin city centre. Like the majority of Irish courses, it hosts both National Hunt and Flat racing. The course, built by Captain George Quin and modelled on Sandown Park Racecourse in England, was completed in 1888 and acquired by the Horse Racing Board of Ireland in 1967. Many important races are held here and racing takes place all year round, with about 22 meetings per year. In 1941, noted Royal Air Force pilot Hugh Verity, who flew many secret agents at night into and out of farm fields in France, force landed on the Race Course. Padraig Beggy
Padraig Beggy (born 30 March 1986) is an Irish professional jockey, who won the 2017 Epsom Derby on Wings of Eagles and the 2019 Irish Derby on Sovereign. He is retained by leading trainer Aidan O'Brien. Early career Beggy grew up in Dunboyne, Ireland, and his interest in horse racing developed on childhood visits to Fairyhouse. He first sat on a horse at the age of 14 when working for a local trainer, Owen Weldon. He began his professional racing career in 2003 after graduating from the Racing Academy and Centre of Education in Kildare, and rode his first winner in an apprentice handicap at Naas in July of that year on Red Venus, trained by Seamus Fahey. He was briefly apprentice with Kevin Prendergast which caused him to downscale his riding ambitions, since without the backing of a major trainer, the life of a jockey was tough. Naas Racecourse
Naas Racecourse is a horse racing venue in Naas, County Kildare, Ireland, approximately 18 miles from Dublin. The course stages both Flat racing and National Hunt racing and in 2010 fifteen race meetings were held there. The Naas Races Company was formed in 1922 and the first meeting at the course was held on 19 June 1924. The course is left-handed with an uphill finish and a long run-in.
