Orcho Glacier
Orcho Glacier ( bg, ледник Орчо, lednik Orcho, ) is long and wide glacier on the east side of Ravelin Ridge on Clarence Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica situated north of Treskavets Glacier and south-southwest of Banari Glacier. It flows eastwards and enters the Southern Ocean north of Gesha Point. The glacier is named after the Bulgarian rebel leader Orcho Voyvoda (1829-1911). Location Orcho Glacier is centred at . Clarence Island (South Shetland Islands)
Clarence Island (russian: остров Шишкова) is the easternmost island in the South Shetland Islands, off the coast of Antarctica. It is claimed by Argentina as part of Argentine Antarctica, by Britain as part of the British Antarctic Territory, and by Chile as part of the Chilean Antarctic Territory. The name dates back to at least 1820 and is now established in international usage, except for Russia, where it has been known as Shishkova Island since its discovery by Russians in 1821. The island is long and oriented in a south-southwest to north-northeast direction. Ravelin Ridge and Urda Ridge occupy the interior of the mountainous island. The summit Mount Irving, high, rises north of Cape Bowles, the southernmost point. South Shetland Islands
The South Shetland Islands are a group of Antarctic islands with a total area of . They lie about north of the Antarctic Peninsula, and between southwest of the nearest point of the South Orkney Islands. By the Antarctic Treaty of 1959, the islands' sovereignty is neither recognized nor disputed by the signatories and they are free for use by any signatory for non-military purposes. The islands have been claimed by the United Kingdom since 1908 and as part of the British Antarctic Territory since 1962. They are also claimed by the governments of Chile (since 1940, as part of the Antártica Chilena province) and Argentina (since 1943, as part of Argentine Antarctica, Tierra del Fuego Province). Gesha Point ( bg, нос Геша, ‘Nos Gesha’ \'nos 'ge-sha\) is the small point on the east coast of Clarence Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica separating the glacier termini of Orcho Glacier to the north and Treskavets Glacier to the south. Ravelin Ridge
Ravelin Ridge is a ridge which extends north–south and rises to 1400 m ( Jerez Peak) in northern Clarence Island, in the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica. It is connected to Urda Ridge to the south by Soyka Saddle, and has its east slopes drained by Treskavets, Orcho and Banari Glaciers. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) applied the name in 1971 following mapping by the Joint Services Expedition, 1970-71. List Of Glaciers In The Antarctic
There are many glaciers in the Antarctic. This set of lists does not include ice sheets, ice caps or ice fields, such as the Antarctic ice sheet, but includes glacial features that are defined by their flow, rather than general bodies of ice. The lists include outlet glaciers, valley glaciers, cirque glaciers, tidewater glaciers and ice streams. Ice streams are a type of glacier and many of them have "glacier" in their name, e.g. Pine Island Glacier. Ice shelves are listed separately in the List of Antarctic ice shelves.
