Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa
The is a professional chamber orchestra, founded in 1988, based in Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan, and is a full member of the Association of Japanese Symphony Orchestras. The Orchestra's home is Ishikawa Ongakudō (Ishikawa Music Hall). Since 2007, its music director is Michiyoshi Inoue. Activities The Orchestra performs more than 100 concerts every year. In 1992, the Orchestra's CD "合奏協奏曲第1番(シュニトケ)、カルメン組曲(ビゼー" ( Concerto Grosso No. 1 by Schnittke and ''Carmen'' by Bizet) received the Japan Record Academy Award. Ishikawa Ongakudō
is a concert hall in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. It opened in 2001 and has two principal performances spaces: the shoebox-style Concert Hall, which seats 1,560; and the Hōgaku Hall, with a capacity of 720, for traditional Japanese music, kabuki, and bunraku. The walls of the main auditorium are finished with urushi. Yoshinobu Ashihara was the architect with acoustic design by Nagata Acoustics, who trialled their concept with a 1:10 scale model. Maki Ishii
was a Japanese composer of contemporary classical music, and brother of composer Kan Ishii. Biography Born in Tokyo, Ishii studied composition privately (with Akira Ifukube and Tomojiro Ikenouchi) and conducting with Akeo Watanabe from 1952 to 1958 in Tokyo, then moved to Berlin, where he continued his studies under Boris Blacher and Josef Rufer. In 1962 he returned to Japan . His music has been performed by the ''taiko'' group Kodo and he has composed for Japanese instruments as well as symphony orchestra and other Western instruments. Unsuk Chin
Unsuk Chin ( ko, 진은숙 ; born July 14, 1961) is a South Korean composer of contemporary classical music, who is based in Berlin, Germany. Chin was self-taught piano from a young age and studied composition at Seoul National University as well as with György Ligeti at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. The recipient of numerous awards, she won the 2004 Grawemeyer Award for her Violin Concerto and the 2010 Music Composition Prize of the Prince Pierre Foundation for the ensemble piece ''Gougalōn''. Shigeaki Saegusa (, formerly ; ''Saegusa Shigeaki''; born July 8, 1942) is a Japanese composer. Career Saegusa is best known for his opera version '' Chushingura'' of the well-known kabuki epic of the Forty-seven Ronin/Chūshingura with a libretto by the novelist Shimada Masahiko. Written over a period of 10 years, the opera was most recently performed at the New National Theatre, Tokyo in 2002. Akira Miyoshi
Akira Miyoshi (三善 晃; January 10, 1933 – 4 October 2013) was a Japanese composer. Biography Miyoshi was born in Suginami, Tokyo. He was a child prodigy on the piano, studying with Kozaburo Hirai and Tomojiro Ikenouchi. He studied French literature at the University of Tokyo, and then studied composition with Henri Challan and Raymond Gallois-Montbrun at the Paris Conservatory from 1955 to 1957. Teizo Matsumura
Teizo Matsumura (松村 禎三 ''Matsumura Teizō''; 15 January 1929 – 6 August 2007) was a Japanese composer and poet. Orphaned and suffering from tuberculosis, during his recovery in the early 1950s he began to write both haiku and music. He studied with Tomojiro Ikenouchi and Akira Ifukube. He was influenced by Ravel and Stravinsky, but also Asian traditions. He was Professor Emeritus of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. Hikaru Hayashi
was a Japanese composer, pianist and conductor. Hayashi is considered to be one of the most renowned and accomplished Japanese composers of the postwar period. In particular, Hayashi was noted for his choral suite ''Scenes from Hiroshima'' (1958–2001). In exploring the possibilities of Japanese language opera, Hayashi composed more than 30 operas. He was artistic director and resident composer of the Opera Theatre Konnyakuza. His oeuvre also includes symphonic works, works for band, chamber music, choral works, songs and more than 100 film scores. Tōru Takemitsu
was a Japanese composer and writer on aesthetics and music theory. Largely self-taught, Takemitsu was admired for the subtle manipulation of instrumental and orchestral timbre.
