Oranim ( he, אֳרָנִים or , ''lit.'' Pines) is a college of education in northern Israel. The college was founded in 1951 by the United Kibbutz Movement. It was named after the small forest of pine trees in the area. It offers BA degrees in a variety of fields in the humanities and social sciences, BSc degrees in a variety of sciences, BEd degrees in kindergarten, elementary and upper school studies, and MEd and MTeach degrees. Zevulun Regional Council
Zevulun Regional Council ( he, מועצה אזורית זבולון, ''Mo'atza Azorit Zvulun'') is a regional council (Israel), regional council in the Haifa District of Israel. Founded in 1950, it had a population of 10,900 in 2006. The council borders Mateh Asher Regional Council to the north, Jezreel Valley Regional Council and Shefa-'Amr to the east, Carmel Nature Reserve national park and Kiryat Tiv'on to the south and Krayot (Haifa), HaKerayot to the west. Name The name is derived from the Hebrew name "Emek Zevulun", lit. "Zebulun Valley", given by Zionist pioneers to the coastal area stretching along the Bay of Acre, from Acre, Israel, Acre (Akko) to Haifa, on the incorrect assumption that the tribe of Zebulun once had its territory in this area – this land was part of the allotment of tribe of Asher, Asher, and is a coastal plain, not a valley. Ruth Calderon
Ruth Calderon ( he, רות קלדרון, born 25 September 1961) is an Israeli academic and politician. She served as a member of Knesset for Yesh Atid between 2013 and 2015. Biography Ruth Calderon was born in Tel Aviv to a Sephardic father who emigrated to British controlled Mandatory Palestine from Bulgaria and an Ashkenazi mother originally from Germany. She grew up in what she describes as "a very Jewish, very Zionist, secular-traditional-religious home that combined Ashkenaz and Sepharad, Betar and Hashomer Hatzair," and attended public schools. She earned a BA at Oranim Academic College and the University of Haifa, and went on to earn her MA and Ph.D. degrees in Talmud from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 1989, she established the first Israeli secular, pluralistic and egalitarian Beth Midrash for women and men. In 1996 she founded ALMA, which seeks to acquaint secular Israelis with Hebrew culture. Miriam Roth
Miriam Roth (Hebrew: מרים רות; January 16, 1910 – November 13, 2005) was a preeminent pioneer of Israeli preschool education, author and scholar of children's literature, with a long career as a kindergarten teacher and educator. Many of the children's books she wrote became Israeli best-selling classics. Biography Miriam Roth was born in 1910 to Helén (Hella, Linka) and Jenő (Yaakov) Roth. She was born in the Austro-Hungarian town of Érsekújvár, now Nové Zámky, where the main language at the time was Hungarian, and which later became part of Czechoslovakia and then Slovakia. Her father, who had fought in World War I, was the principal of the town's Jewish elementary school. She studied psychology and earned a bachelor's degree in pedagogy and natural sciences at Masaryk University. Joshua Sobol
Joshua Sobol ( he, יהושע סובול; born 24 August 1939), is an Israeli playwright, writer, and theatre director. Biography Joshua Sobol was born in Tel Mond. His mother's family fled the pogroms in Europe in 1922 and his father's family immigrated from Poland in 1934 to escape the Nazis. Sobol is married to Edna, set and costume designer. They have a daughter, Neta, and a son, Yahli Sobol, a singer and writer. Sobol studied at the Sorbonne, Paris, and graduated with a diploma in philosophy. Theatre career Sobol's first play was performed in 1971 by the Municipal Theatre in Haifa, where Sobol worked from 1984 to 1988 as a playwright and later assistant artistic director. Biography Dorchin was born in Kibbutz Kfar HaHoresh. In the 1980s, Dorchin began creating iron sculptures. He has lectured at the University of Haifa since 1991 and served as the head of the university's Art Department from 1997 to 2001. As of 2020, Dorchin is the artistic director of the Basis for Art & Culture, Basis art school, a position he took in 2015. In 1990 Dorchin exhibited at the Israeli Pavilion in Venice Biennale.
