Open University Of Sarajevo
The Open University of Sarajevo, ( bs, Otvoreni univerzitet Sarajevo / Отворени универзитет Сарајево) is a non-profit experimental school for interactive education, social activism and public debate. Themes that the school has dealt with include Neo-Marxism, Yugoslavism, psychoanalysis, Third wave feminism, Crisis theory, Post-Colonialism, Historical revisionism, Post-fascism, social constructionism, revolutionary democracy, linguistic nationalism and philosophy of existence. The school has a festival format and is organized once a year in December. It nurtures the traditions of the Praxis School – a Yugoslav Marxist humanist philosophical movement, whose members were influenced by Western Marxism and organized the Korčula Summer School. 2014 Bosnia And Herzegovina Social Riots
The 2014 unrest in Bosnia and Herzegovina was a series of demonstrations and riots that began in the northern town of Tuzla on 4 February 2014 but quickly spread to multiple cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including Sarajevo, Zenica, Mostar, Jajce, and Brčko, among others, for social reasons and with the aim of overthrowing the government. The riots were the most violent scenes the country had seen since the end of the Bosnian War in 1995. The rioting largely took place in the entity of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the same level of unrest or activism did not occur in Republika Srpska. Some news sources, such as BBC and '' The New York Times'', used the name Bosnian Spring when describing the riots, a terminology taken from other events such the Arab Spring and the Prague Spring. Jasmila Žbanić
Jasmila Žbanić (; born 19 December 1974) is a Bosnian film director, screenwriter and producer, best known for having written and directed ''Quo Vadis, Aida?'' (2020), which earned her nominations for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, the BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language, and the BAFTA Award for Best Direction. Early life Žbanić was born in Sarajevo on 19 December 1974 into a Muslim family. Žbanić went to local schools before attending the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo, where she got a degree. She worked for a time in the United States as a puppeteer in the Vermont-based Bread and Puppet Theater and as a clown in a Lee De Long workshop. Igor Štiks
Igor Štiks (born 17 September 1977 in Sarajevo) is a novelist and scholar. His novels ''The Judgment of Richard Richter'' and ''A Castle in Romagna'' have earned him multiple awards; the former has been translated into 15 languages. Biography Igor Štiks was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, in 1977. During the Yugoslav wars he fled to Croatia and currently lives in Belgrade, Serbia. He has also lived in Paris, Chicago, Edinburgh, and Graz. He earned his PhD at the Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris and Northwestern University and later worked and taught at the University of Edinburgh and the Faculty of Media and Communications in Belgrade. The Faculty of Political Science in Sarajevo ( bs, Fakultet političkih nauka u Sarajevu) or FPN is one of the 24 faculties of University of Sarajevo. The faculty was formed in 1961 as former "High School of Political Science in Sarajevo" and it is located in urban area of Sarajevo (between Drvenija Bridge and Čobanija Bridge). Dino Abazović
Dino Abazović (born 1972) is a sociologist and Full Professor at the University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Biography He studied sociology at the Faculty of Political Science in Sarajevo where he graduated in 1999. He earned his post-graduate degree from the same institution in 2005 with a thesis on the sociological determination of religious nationalism. In 2009 he earned his PhD with a thesis on the subject of Bosnian Muslims between secularization and desecularization. Enver Kazaz
Enver Kazaz (born 15 January 1962) is a Bosnian literary historian, literary critic, writer, social commentator and publicist. He is a Centennial Professor and head of the department of Croatian literature in the wider department of comparative literature of the University of Sarajevo. Biography He was born in the village of Kamenica, a part of the municipality of Ilijaš to a Bosniak family. Asim Mujkić
Asim Mujkić (born 11 May 1968) is a Bosnian philosopher and sociologist. Educated at the University of Sarajevo, he works in the areas of ethics, phenomenology, philosophy of existence, philosophy of identity, social and political theory and theories on ethnicity. He has written particularly extensively on ethnicity and identity, ethnic phenomenology, existentialism, and on the works and thought of Richard Rorty and John Rawls. Krokodil Literary Festival
Krokodil Festival (''Knjževno Regionalno Okupljanje Koje Otklanja Dosadu I Letargiju'') is a literary festival, with the main event held annually in Belgrade, Serbia. The festival mostly presents authors from the region of former Yugoslavia ( Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia) with exceptions like authors from Germany or Denmark. Youth Initiative For Human Rights
__NOTOC__ The Youth Initiative for Human Rights ( sh, Inicijativa mladih za ljudska prava; sq, Nisma e të Rinjve për të Drejtat e Njeriut) or YIHR is a network of autonomous non-governmental organization active in Serbia, Kosovo, Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is focused on building connections and establishing cooperation between young people from different ethnic groups in Balkans.
