OpenEZX
OpenEZX was a project active from 2004 to 2008, which gathered information about the Linux based Motorola EZX phone platform. It tried to provide a 100% free software stack for those phones, especially a way to avoid any proprietary filesystem and/or device drivers. It also aimed to provide a current (2.6.x) kernel with all required hardware support for the EZX phones. Supported phones included: * Motorola mobile telephones, generally based on MontaVista Linux, include the ROKR E2, ROKR E6, A780, E680, A910, A1200 and others to come. Motorola A780
The Motorola A780 is the second cellular PDA running the Linux operating system. It was introduced in 2003 and sold in Europe and Asia. Some models include GPS and navigation software. Design The Motorola A780 is a Linux-based smartphone. When the lid is closed, the phone appears like a traditional phone, with a keypad matrix and small display, actually a window to the larger display below the lid. When the lid is flipped open, a QVGA touch screen is revealed that can be used with fingers or a supplied stylus. Features The phone is supplied with a number of applications including a POP and IMAP email client, Opera web browser, calendar and a viewer for PDF and Microsoft Office files. Mobilinux is a discontinued Linux distribution by MontaVista. It was announced on April 25, 2005. History In 2005, PalmSource joined MontaVista to collaborate on Mobilinux. In April 2005, version 4.0 was released. In 2007, version 5.0 was released. Usage Around 35 million devices have run on Mobilinux, mainly in Asian markets. LWN.net argued that because it was controlled by a single company and targeted mobile operators, it did not generated a large developer community. It has been used on smartphones and NAS devices.
