One San Jacinto Plaza is a 20-story office high-rise building located at 201 East Main Street in Downtown El Paso, Texas. It is a very prominent part of the El Paso skyline and is most visible heading eastbound on I-10. It is the second tallest skyscraper in El Paso, behind Wells Fargo Plaza. Currently, among its tenants are restaurants, healthcare groups, law offices, accounting firms, family offices, insurance companies, and financial institutions. It was built in the international style of architecture, which was very popular during the time period in which the building was constructed. The building was originally named the El Paso National Bank Tower when it opened in 1962, it was also known as the Texas Commerce Bank Tower in the 1980s and early 1990s. Downtown El Paso
Downtown El Paso is the central business district of El Paso, Texas. Historical downtown James Day, an El Paso historian, said that downtown's main business area was originally centered between Second Street and San Francisco Street. At a later point, the main business area was centered on Stanton Street and Santa Fe. In the late 1800s, most of the white American residents lived to the north of the non-white areas, living in brick residences along Magoffin, Myrtle, and San Antonio streets. Hispanic American residents lived in an area called Chihuahuita ("little Chihuahua"), which was located south of Santa Fe and west of Second. The Wells Fargo Plaza is a high-rise skyscraper located on 221 North Kansas Street in Downtown El Paso, Texas, United States. It opened as the State National Bank Plaza on October 25, 1971. It is 302 feet (92 m) tall. It is designed in the International Style. Originally the tallest tower in El Paso, it was surpassed by the WestStar Tower in 2021. The tower sits on a base three stories high, then rises to its full height. The repetitive angular windows add another International Style element of blocky appearance and expression of structure. The tower is lit at night with up to 13 horizontal white lines (originally 17). A U.S. Flag design is used during patriotic holidays, and a Christmas tree design is used during the holiday season. The Plaza Hotel, formerly the Hilton Hotel, is a landmark skyscraper located at 106 Mills Avenue in El Paso, Texas, USA. History The hotel was constructed on the site of the Sheldon Hotel, which burned down on April 9, 1929. The Sheldon served as the unofficial headquarters for many of the participants in the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920s) from both sides of the border.
