Ondel-ondel is a large puppet figure featured in Betawi folk performance of Jakarta, Indonesia. Ondel-ondel is an icon of Jakarta. Ondel-ondel are utilized for livening up festivals or for welcoming guests of honor, usually in pairs. Ondel-ondel is one of a few Indonesian folk performances that has survived modernization and is still being regularly performed. The musical accompaniment for the ondel-ondel performance varies with regions, occasions and groups of performances. Indonesian Culture

Ali Sadikin
Ali Sadikin (7 July 1926 – 20 May 2008), better known as Bang Ali, was an Indonesian politician who served as the fourth governor of Jakarta from 1966 until 1977. Prior to becoming governor, he served as Minister of Transportation from 1963 until 1966 and Coordinating Minister for Marine Affairs from 1964 until 1966. He also served as Chairman of the Football Association of Indonesia from 1977 until 1981. Born to parents of ethnic-Sundanese descent, Ali attended the Semarang Shipping Science Polytechnic during the Japanese occupation period. During the Indonesian National Revolution, he joined the People's Security Agency Navy, the predecessor to the Indonesian Navy, and fought against the Dutch during Operation Product and Operation Kraai. Eliza Ruhamah Scidmore
Eliza Ruhamah Scidmore () (1856–1928) was an American author, geographer, and photographer, who became the first woman to sit on the board of trustees of the National Geographic Society. She visited Japan many times between 1885 and 1928. Life Scidmore was born October 14, 1856, in Clinton, Iowa. She attended Oberlin College. Her interest in travel was enhanced by the professional position of her brother, George Hawthorne Scidmore, a career diplomat who served in the Far East from 1884 to 1922. Often, Eliza was able to accompany her brother on assignments and his diplomatic position gave her entry into regions inaccessible to ordinary travelers. Upon a return to Washington, D.C., in 1885, Eliza espoused her famous idea of planting many Japanese cherry trees in the capital. Barong (mythology)
Barong is a panther-like creature and character in the Balinese mythology of Bali, Indonesia. He is the king of the spirits, leader of the hosts of good, and enemy of Rangda, the demon queen and mother of all spirit guarders in the mythological traditions of Bali. The battle between Barong and Rangda is featured in the Barong dance to represent the eternal battle between good and evil. Origin Barong animal mask dance, together with ''sanghyang'' dance are considered native Balinese dances, predating Hindu influences. Higantes Festival
The Higantes Festival is a local festival held annually In Angono, Rizal, Philippines, where hundreds of giant papier-mâché puppets are paraded, representing the common people's mockery of the bad ''hacienda'' (land) owners of the past during Spanish colonial rule. It has evolved into also celebrating the feast of Pope St. Clement I, every 22 and 23 November. Origin The origin of the festival dates back to Spanish colonial rule, around the late 1800s, where the wealthy ruling class who ruled Angono as their ''hacienda'' strictly prohibited the common people from celebrating, except for one single festival in the entire year. Coconut
The coconut tree (''Cocos nucifera'') is a member of the palm tree family ( Arecaceae) and the only living species of the genus ''Cocos''.
