''On Our Own'' is an American sitcom broadcast Sundays at 8:30 pm (EST) on CBS as part of their 1977–78 United States network television schedule, 1977–78 schedule. It featured Lynnie Greene as Maria Bonino and Bess Armstrong as Julia Peters, two employees in the Bedford Advertising Agency in New York City who also share an apartment. Toni McBain (Gretchen Wyler) was their boss, while April Baxter (Dixie Carter) and Phil Goldstein were their coworkers. The show aired from October 9, 1977, until April 30, 1978. A sitcom, a portmanteau of situation comedy, or situational comedy, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who mostly carry over from episode to episode. Sitcoms can be contrasted with sketch comedy, where a troupe may use new characters in each sketch, and stand-up comedy, where a comedian tells jokes and stories to an audience. Sitcoms originated in radio, but today are found mostly on television as one of its dominant narrative forms. Bob Randall (born Stanley Goldstein; August 20, 1937February 11, 1995) was an American screenwriter, playwright, novelist, and television producer. Biography Randall was born Stanley Goldstein on August 20, 1937 in the Bronx borough of New York City. Prior to becoming a writer, Randall worked as an advertising copywriter. In 1977, Randall had his only screen acting role as J. M. Bedford in the short-lived television comedy series '' On Our Own'', which he also created. The same year, Randall published the thriller novel '' The Fan'', about an aging actress stalked by a psychotic young man. The novel won an Edgar Award for Best First Novel, and was adapted into the 1981 feature film of the same name starring Lauren Bacall and Michael Biehn. Time Life Television was a division of Time Life Films and was the television production and distribution arm of Time Inc. With CBS, they led a partnership to export their shows overseas.
