''Olearia curticoma'' is a species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae and is endemic to Victoria. It is an erect shrub with glabrous, sticky branchlets, linear leaves and white and yellow, daisy-like inflorescences. Description ''Olearia curticoma'' is an erect shrub that typically grows to a height of up to about , and has glabrous, sticky branchlets. The leaves are arranged alternately along the branchlets, linear, long and wide and more or less glabrous. The heads or daisy-like "flowers" are arranged singly at or near the ends of branchlets and are in diameter on a peduncle long. Each head has ten to sixteen ray florets, the ligule white and long, surrounding about twice as many yellow disc florets. Flowering occurs from December to May and the fruit is a cylindrical achene, the pappus short and white. In Asteraceae, the pappus is the modified calyx, the part of an individual floret, that surrounds the base of the corolla tube in flower. It functions as a wind-dispersal mechanism for the seeds. The term is sometimes used for similar structures in other plant families e.g. in certain genera of the Apocynaceae, although the pappus in Apocynaceae is not derived from the calyx of the flower. Neville Grant Walsh
Neville Grant Walsh (born 1956) has worked at the National Herbarium of Victoria from 1977. Together with Don Foreman, he authored the first volume of ''Flora of Victoria'', authoring a further two with Timothy John Entwisle, Timothy Entwisle. while for Volume 4 all three shared the work. He has published 112 names in more than 80 peer-reviewed papers (see scholia). He has served on the working group (vascular plants) for the Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria since 2005, and in 2010 served as its taxonomic advisor on the Campanulaceae family.
