Ole Christian Axelsen
Ole Christian Axelsen (1849 – 1917) was a Norwegian businessperson. Axelsen was born in 1849 at Bakke in Vest-Agder county in Norway. He began his career in the company owned by the widow of J. G. Jansen. Later he married the widow's daughter. In 1879 he took over and expanded the operation under ''O. C. Axelsens Fabrikker A/S''. He started a barrel factory, sawmill and watermill at Drangeid, a village north of the town of Flekkefjord. Selurafossen, the waterfall from lake Lake Selura, had provided an opportunity for development of hydroelectric power for industry. He was also involved in merchantry, and briefly owned the historic cargo ship '' Skomvær''. He has been called the foremost businessman in Flekkefjord around 1900. He was a member of the city council, and a board member of the local savings bank. Bakke, Norway
Bakke is a former municipality in Vest-Agder county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1965. It was located in the present-day municipalities of Sirdal and Flekkefjord. It included the whole Sirdalen valley along the Rogaland county border, stretching from the Aust-Agder county border in the north to Sirnes and the lake Lundevatnet in the south. The administrative center was the village of Sira where Bakke Church is located. History The church parish of Bakke (population: 2,378 in 1835) was split into three civil municipalities on 1 January 1838: ''Vestre Bakke'', ''Østre Bakke'', and Gyland. Vest-Agder
Vest-Agder (; "West Agder") was one of 18 counties (''fylker'') in Norway up until 1 January 2020, when it was merged with Aust-Agder to form Agder county. In 2016, there were 182,701 inhabitants, around 3.5% of the total population of Norway. Its area was about . The county administration was located in its largest city, Kristiansand. Vest-Agder was a major source of timber for Dutch and later English shipping from the 16th century onwards. is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Lister. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Flekkefjord. The villages of Sira, Gyland, Rasvåg, Kirkehavn, and Åna-Sira are located in Flekkefjord. Flekkefjord is the westernmost municipality of the geographical region of Sørlandet. Skomvær (barque)
''Skomvær'' was the name of a steel-hulled barque built in 1890 for J. C. & G. Knudsen in Porsgrunn, Telemark, Norway. The ship, which was designed by naval architecture, naval architect Randulf Hansen and constructed at Laxevaags Maskin- og Jernskibsbyggeri in Bergen, was the first sailing ship constructed with steel in Norway and for a time the largest Norwegian sailing vessel ever built. However, the ship struggled to compete in the 20th century with the advent of the Steamboat, steamship, and in 1924 she was decommissioned and sold for scrap. ''Skomvær'' entered the public eye once again in 1960, when musician Erik Bye wrote the song "Skomværsvalsen" as a tribute to the ship and her crew. A fundraising effort by the artist led to the construction of the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue boat ''Skomvær II'' that same year, and in 1986 the organization named another of its boats, ''Skomvær III'', after the ship.
