Old Dominion University Fieldhouse was a 5,200-seat multi-purpose arena located on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Opened in 1970, it was home to the Old Dominion Monarchs and Lady Monarchs college basketball teams until the season, when the Ted Constant Convocation Center opened. was demolished in 2006. Basketball Collegiate The Monarchs played the majority of their home games in the arena from 1970 to 1977, before moving full-time to the Norfolk Scope from 1977 to 1990. 1970–71 Virginia Squires Season
The 1970–71 Virginia Squires season was the first season of the Virginia Squires in the American Basketball Association. After one season each in Oakland and Washington, owner Earl Foreman was convinced by the league to move his team to Virginia. Like the Carolina Cougars and The Floridians, the Squires played as a regional franchise, primarily playing games in Norfolk, Hampton and Richmond, with Salem and Roanoke having occasional games. The Squires started play on October 17, 1970, in Norfolk, winning 133–116 over the Pittsburgh Condors. They proceeded to win their next five games, while having a 30–12 first half of the season, highlighted by a seven-game winning streak. They went 25–17 in the second half, though they never lost more than two games in a row. They finished 1st in points scored at 123.3 per game, but 7th in points allowed at 119.7 per game. Tim Nolan (USA)
Tim Nolan (born 1960) is a British-born bassist living in Singapore. Early life Nolan was born in Oldham, Lancashire, United Kingdom in 1960. In the early 1980s he played with Nottingham-based jazz band Pinski Zoo, recording three albums; - "Introduce me to the Doctor", which garnered the review from NME of "Pinski Zoo have put the animal back into music," and which included the track 'Stutter Strut'. Other albums featuring Nolan included "The Dizzy Dance Record" and "The City Can't Have It Back". During this time the band gained popularity, with features in music papers such as the NME and Melody Maker, and by playing and touring with such bands as The Eurythmics, Pigbag, and Alexis Korner. After leaving Pinski Zoo, Nolan played with The Howdy Boys, also based in Nottingham. The Oakland Oaks were a charter member of the original American Basketball Association and the first West Coast basketball team to win a major professional championship. Formed in February 1967, the team played in the ABA during the 1967–68 and 1968–69 seasons at the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum Arena. The team colors were green and gold. On February 2, 1967, longtime entertainer and business entrepreneur Pat Boone, S. Kenneth Davidson and Dennis A.
