Okpho
Okpho (; also spelt Okpo) is a small town and seat of Okpho Township, Tharrawaddy District, in the Bago Region of southern-central Myanmar. It lies south of Gyobingauk and north of Minhla. It contains a hospital, a pagoda, and an open ground in the town centre. It is located north of Yangon. The Okpho Railway Station is operated by Myanmar Railways and the town also contains a police station. Father J.B Bringaud was reported to have been in the area west of Okpho in November 1862. The population of Okpho's urban area is 11,525 as of 2014, while Okpho Township's population is 126,662. U Saw
U Saw, also known as Galon U Saw ( my-Mymr, ဦးစော or my-Mymr, ဂဠုန်ဦးစော, lit. Garuda U Saw, ; 16 March 1900 – 8 May 1948), was a leading Burmese politician who served as Prime Minister of British Burma during the colonial era before the Second World War. He is also known for his role in the assassination of Burma's national hero Aung San and other independence leaders in July 1947, only months before Burma gained independence from Britain in January 1948. He was executed by hanging for this assassination. Early life and education U Saw was born on 16 March 1900 in Okpho, Tharrawaddy District, British Burma. Chit Maung
Journal Kyaw U Chit Maung (; 1913–1945) was a journalist and patriotic writer of Burma / Myanmar. He worked for ''Bogyoke'' Aung San, the father of Burmese politician Aung San Suu Kyi. He was Chief Editor of ''New Light of Burma' Later his own ''Journal Kyaw Newspaper'' (The Weekly Thunderer) became well known in Burma. Chit Maung was born in Okpho, Thayarwady District, and studied at Latpatan Town High School. After he passed high school, he started work for Rangoon newspapers and became newspaper. He wrote political novels with the pen name ''Shwe Lin Yon'' and adult education novels with the pen name "Thu". Later, Chit Maung set up his own newspaper called ''Journal Kyaw Newspaper'' (). Its patriotic writing style for the Burmese working class attacked the ruling British colonial government. Gyobingauk
Gyobingauk is a small town and seat of Gyobingauk Township, Tharrawaddy District, in the Bago Region of southern-central Burma. It lies approximately 10 kilometres north of Okpho along National Highway 2. It is located roughly 185 kilometres north of Yangon. The town has a Roman Catholic history with missionaries. Martyrs' Day ( my, အာဇာနည်နေ့, ) is a Burmese national holiday observed on 19 July to commemorate Gen. Aung San and seven other leaders of the pre-independence interim government, and one bodyguard —Thakin Mya, Ba Cho, Abdul Razak, Ba Win, Mahn Ba Khaing, Sao San Tun, Ohn Maung and Ko Htwe—all of whom were assassinated on that day in 1947.
