Okpe
Okpe is a kingdom in Delta State, Nigeria. Today, it is also the name of a local government area. It is one of the many kingdoms that make up Urhobo tribe. Its capital is Orerokpe. The kingdom plays host to the Osubi Airport (also known as Warri Airstrip), which is actually located at Osubi and the Delta State Trade Fair Complex. The Orodje celebrated ten years on ancestral throne. Geoffrey Arich is the king of Okpe Kingdom, Kenyan Branch. The kingship is usually rotated between the four ruling houses. History The Okpe kingdom was established as early as the 17th century. It has a traditional ruler with the title Orodje of Okpe. Urhobo People
The Urhobos are people located in southern Nigeria, near the northwestern Niger Delta. The Urhobos are the major ethnic group in Delta State, one of the 36 states in Nigeria, Ethnic Nationality in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Urhobo people speak the Urhobo language. The word Urhobo refers to a group of people rather than a territory. Approximately 5 million people are Urhobos. They have a social and cultural affinity to the Bini people of Nigeria. The Urhobo people live in a territory bounded by latitudes 6°and 5°, 15° North and Longitudes 5°, 40° and 6°, 25° East in the Delta and the Bayelsa States of Nigeria. Sapele, Nigeria
Sapele is a town and one of the Local Government Area in Delta State, Nigeria. Sapele səpā´lē city (1991 est. pop. 123,000), S Nigeria, a port in the Niger delta. The center of the Nigerian timber industry, Sapele has sawmills and a large plywood and veneer factory; rubber is processed there, and plastics, chemicals, and shoes are manufactured. After the British established a vice consulate in the city in 1892, Sapele grew in importance as a port; in 1894 it came under British rule and served as a local administrative center. The Okpe people believes the origin of the name is to be an anglicized derivation of the Okpe word 'Uriapele', named after a local deity, the shrine of which can still be found in the centre of the city. Patrick Aziza
Patrick Aziza (23 December 1947 – 16 August 2014) was the first military Governor of Kebbi State, Nigeria after it was split off from Sokoto State on 27 August 1991 during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida. Birth and early career Aziza was born in Okpe local Government Area in Delta State on 23 December 1947. He was raised in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. He went to Ibadan for his secondary education before joining the army and participating in the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970). Aziza then attended the Nigeria Defence Academy, Kaduna, graduating in 1970. He was commissioned 2nd lieutenant and promoted to lieutenant in 1970, and was posted to the 3rd Marine Commando. Osubi is a town in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta state, southern Nigeria. The population is approximately over 8000 people. Osubi Airport is located in Osubi. There is a rapid infrastructural development around the airport region due to the closeness and prominence to the Niger Delta oil-producing area of Nigeria. Osubi Airstrip is an aviation facility located in Osubi, within Okpe Local Government, serving the city of Effurun, Warri and its environs in Delta State, Nigeria. It is about northeast of the city. Osubi is a town in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta state, Southern Nigeria. The runway length does not include a displaced threshold/overrun on each end, making the total paved length . Harris Otadafevwerha Deodemise Eghagha (8 March 1934 – 19 March 2009) was appointed Military Governor of Ogun State, Nigeria from July 1978 to October 1979 during the military regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo, handing over power to the elected governor Olabisi Onabanjo at the start of the Nigerian Second Republic. Eghagha was born on 8 March 1934 in Mereje, Okpe Local Government Area, Urhoboland, Delta State. Joseph Karakitie Azigbo
Joseph Karachiite Azibu (1918–1986) was the oleogum of Okpe Kingdom in Nigeria. In the 1950s, he achieved success as an industrialist and became one of the richest men in Nigeria. During the Nigerian Civil War, most of his properties were seized or vandalized by the Nigerian army. He continued his career in business after the army but he was unable to regain the wealth and success he had achieved before the war. Early life and career in business Azibu was born in Orerokpe on December 29, 1918. He worked with the United African Company UAC in Jos, Plateau state before establishing his mining business (Azibu Brothers Limited). He soon became very successful in the mining field and became one of the richest men in Nigeria in the 1950s.
