Okon Edwin
Edwin Edem Okon (born 19 October 1970) is the head coach of Rivers Angels. Born in Cross River State, Okon got a coaching certificate from the sport institute in Lagos State. Following the failure of Nigeria to win the 2012 African Women's Championship, and the subsequent resignation of coach Kadiri Ikhana, Okon was appointed interim head coach of the Super Falcons in 2013. Nigeria's failure to advance to the knockout-round at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup led to the sack of Okon by the Nigeria Football Federation and was replaced by his assistant, Christopher Danjuma on an interim basis. Nigeria Women Premier League
The NWFL Premiership (formerly Nigeria Women Premier League) is the top-level league for women's association football in Nigeria. It is the women's equivalent of the men's league, the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) organizes the Nigeria Women Premier League and the Nigeria Women Pro-league. 2014 African Women's Championship
The 2014 African Women's Championship, the 11th edition of the tournament, was held in Namibia. This tournament, organized by the Confederation of African Football, was also a qualification tournament for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, with top three qualifying for the finals in Canada. It was played on 11–25 October 2014. The tournament marked the first participation of Namibia in the African championship. Also for the first time the defending champions, Equatorial Guinea, were not taking part after failing to win their last qualifying round match. Nigeria defeated Cameroon 2–0 in the final to win their ninth title. Host Namibia were awarded the hosting rights in October 2011. It is the first time they will appear in the final tournament. 2012 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup
The 2012 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup was the 6th edition of the tournament. The tournament was played in Japan from 19 August to 8 September, with sixteen national football soccer teams and mark the first hosting of a FIFA women's football tournament in the country. The host nation were to be decided on 19 March 2010 but was postponed by FIFA to give bidders more time to prepare their bids. On 3 March 2011 FIFA initially awarded the World Cup to Uzbekistan. However, on 18 December 2011 FIFA had the tournament stripped from this country for problems with the bid and named Japan as a possible host. The AITEO Cup (formerly Women Challenge Cup and Federations Cup) is a cup competition in Nigeria. Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt have won the most titles. The tournament along with Nigeria Women Premier League are the two recognized competition for women football organized by the Nigeria Football Federation. The finals are usually played at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos State. In June 2017, the Nigeria Football Federation finalized a five-year deal with AITEO Group for the naming rights of the competition. The deal will have the winners and runnerup get ₦10,000,000 and ₦5,000,000 respectively annually. 2016 Nigeria Women Premier League
The 2016 Nigeria Women Premier League was scheduled to start in February 2016, but was moved to 21 May, 2016. A total of 18 teams were registered for the season. The teams are divided into two groups of nine each. The winner of each abridged league will meet at the end of the season to determine the overall winner of the league. The Nigeria Women Premier League is one of the league competitions administered by the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) board. Rivers Angels F.C. came to the season as defending champions after winning the super six tournament in Abia State in the previous season.
