State Route 728 (SR 728) is a short east–west state highway situated in south-central Ohio. At a length of just under , the state highway is a spur route that provides access to the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility. The western terminus of SR 728 is at a signalized intersection with U.S. Route 23 (US 23) in Lucasville that doubles as the eastern terminus of SR 348. Its eastern terminus is just east of the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility, at the intersection of Lucasville-Minford Road (Scioto County Road 28 or CR 28) and Lang Lane (CR 180). Lucasville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Scioto County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,757 at the 2010 census. Lucasville is the location of the Scioto County Fairgrounds. The Southern Ohio Correctional Facility, Ohio's one of three maximum security prisons and the location of Ohio's death house where death row inmates are executed, is located just outside Lucasville. Lucasville is served by the Portsmouth Public Library, as well as the Valley Local School District and Northwest Local School District. Southern Ohio Correctional Facility
The Southern Ohio Correctional Facility (commonly referred to as Lucasville) is a maximum security prison located just outside Lucasville in Scioto County, Ohio. The prison was constructed in 1972. As of 2022, the warden is Donald Redwood. The prison is perhaps best known for its April 1993 riot, in which a total of 450 prisoners rioted, resulting in an 11-day standoff between rioters and law enforcement. One corrections officer and nine inmates were killed during the riot. The riot has been described as one of the largest crises in Ohio prison history and one of the longest prison sieges in U.S. history. Valley High School (Ohio)
Valley High School (VHS) is a public high school in Lucasville, Ohio in Scioto County in Southern Ohio. It is the only high school in the Valley Local School District. Their nickname is the Indians, and their colors are purple and gold. Campus The high school building is located on a large property adjacent to the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility. The Valley Elementary School building sits on the same property northeast of the high school building. The local Kiwanis group assisted in the setting up of playground equipment on the side of the elementary building. Both the high school and elementary were built in 1992-1993 and were scheduled to begin holding classes after the Easter break in the spring of 1993.
