Ohio State Route 559
State Route 559 (SR 559) is a north–south state highway in the central portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. The southern terminus of the highway is at the signalized junction of State Route 29 and State Route 4 in downtown Mechanicsburg. Its northern terminus is at a T-intersection with State Route 287 approximately northwest of North Lewisburg. Route description State Route 559 runs through the eastern portion of Champaign County and the southeastern quadrant of Logan County. No part of the highway is included within the National Highway System, a network of routes deemed most important for the nation's economy, mobility and defense. History Established in 1937, State Route 559 was originally routed along the same alignment that it occupies today through Champaign and Logan Counties. Mechanicsburg, Ohio
Mechanicsburg is a village in Champaign County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,644 at the 2010 census. History Mechanicsburg was platted in 1814. The village was so named for the fact a large share of its settlers worked as mechanics. By 1833, Mechanicsburg's industries included two stores, a gristmill and a saw mill. Mechanicsburg was incorporated as a village in 1834. During the antebellum years, because of its location on a tributary of the Ohio River, Mechanicsburg was used as a station on the Underground Railroad. State Route 29 (SR 29) is an east–west state highway in the west-central portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. Its western terminus is at the Indiana state line near Celina, where State Road 67 continues west. It continues east to St. Marys where it junctions with U.S. Route 33. In that town, it also crosses State Route 66, State Route 116, and State Route 703, which was its former alignment before a divided highway was built. After turning south it crosses State Route 219 in New Knoxville and then has an interchange with Interstate 75, continuing into Sidney where it meets State Route 47. Still going southeast, it briefly joins State Route 235 before turning east and then south again to enter Urbana. Ohio State Route 4
State Route 4 (SR 4), formerly known as Inter-county Highway 4 until 1921 and State Highway 4 in 1922, is a major north–south state highway in Ohio. It is the fifth longest state route in Ohio. Its southern terminus is at U.S. Route 42 in Cincinnati, Ohio, and its northern terminus is at U.S. Route 6 in Sandusky, Ohio. Its path is nearly ruler-straight for many miles. Ohio State Route 287
State Route 287 (SR 287) is a east–west state highway in the western portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. The western terminus of SR 287 is at SR 245 nearly east of West Liberty. Its eastern terminus is at an interchange with U.S. Route 33 (US 33) about northeast of North Lewisburg that dually serves as the southern terminus of SR 739. This two-lane state route was created in the early 1930s. Until an extension in the late 1990s, SR 287 was entirely within Logan County. The extension into Union County was formerly part of US 33.
