The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) is the administrative department of the Ohio state government responsible for primary and secondary public education in the state. The Ohio State Board of Education is the governing body of the department and is responsible for overseeing the department. Ohio Rev. Code § 3301.01 ''et seq.'' The board employs the Superintendent of Public Instruction, who runs the department. The department is headquartered in Columbus. Ohio Board Of Regents
The Ohio Board of Regents was created in 1963 by the Ohio General Assembly to: provide higher education policy advice to the Governor of Ohio and the Ohio General Assembly; develop a strategy involving Ohio's public and independent colleges and universities; advocate for and manage state funds for public colleges; and coordinate and implement state higher education policies. In 2015 the Ohio General Assembly renamed the office of the Board of Regents as the "Department of Higher Education." An ''ex officio'' member is a member of a body (notably a board, committee, council) who is part of it by virtue of holding another office. The term '' ex officio'' is Latin, meaning literally 'from the office', and the sense intended is 'by right of office'; its use dates back to the Roman Republic. The Ohio House of Representatives is the lower house of the Ohio General Assembly, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Ohio; the other house of the bicameral legislature being the Ohio Senate. The House of Representatives first met in Chillicothe on March 3, 1803, under the later superseded state constitution of that year. In 1816, the capital was moved to Columbus, where it is located today. Members are limited to four successive two-year elected terms (terms are considered successive if they are separated by less than four years). The University System of Ohio is the public university system of the state of Ohio. It is governed by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The system includes all of Ohio's public institutions of higher education: 14 four-year research universities, 24 branch and regional campuses, 23 community colleges and technical colleges, and 13 graduate schools, seven medical schools, six law schools, and ten business schools within campuses.
