Ohio's 4th senatorial district has been based in southwestern Ohio and now consists of almost all of Butler County, Ohio, Butler County. It encompasses Ohio House of Representatives districts Ohio's 51st legislative district, 51, Ohio's 52nd legislative district, 52 and Ohio's 53rd legislative district, 53. Ohio () is a state in the Midwestern region of the United States. Bill Coley
Bill Coley (born August 5, 1960) is a former Republican member of the Ohio Senate, representing the 4th District from 2011 to 2020. Formerly, he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Career After graduation from the University of Dayton and Cleveland Marshall College of Law, Coley worked as an attorney at the law firm of Strauss & Troy, where he represented a number of small and large businesses. He is also a private pilot. With incumbent Gary Cates term limited and running for the Ohio Senate, Coley sought to replace him. Unopposed in the primary, he faced Democrat Tyrone Sims in the general election. He won his first term against Sims, winning 70.08% of the electorate. In 2006, Coley faced his first reelection bid, and was unopposed. He won a third term against Democrat Tony Kilmek in 2008 with 62.81% of the vote. Gary Cates
Gary Cates (born December 27, 1955) is a Republican politician who served in the Ohio General Assembly. He was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1995 to 2004, and a member of the Ohio Senate from 2005 to 2011. Life and career A graduate of Virginia Tech and the University of Dayton, Cates began his political career as a Union Township Trustee from 1990 to 1995. When Representative Scott Nein resigned from the Ohio House of Representatives to take a seat in the Ohio Senate late in 1995, Cates was appointed to fill the remainder of his term. A reliably Republican district, Cates faced no opposition in the 1996 primary and beat Kendall L. Mays handily in the 1996 election. He went on to win easily against opponents in 1998 and 2000, and ran unopposed in 2002. Scott Nein
Scott R. Nein of Middletown, Ohio, is an American politician of the Republican party, who formerly served in the Ohio General Assembly. Early life and education A graduate of Bowling Green State University, Nein established a career in insurance before going into politics. Political career Nein began public service by serving on the Middletown, Ohio, School Board from 1987 to 1990. He was encouraged by John Boehner to run for the Ohio House of Representatives to succeed him in 1990. He did so, and won the seat. He won reelection in 1992 and 1994. By his third term Nein was serving as majority floor leader of the House. When Senator Barry Levey resigned from the Ohio Senate in 1995, Nein was appointed to replace him. Barry Levey
Barry Levey (August 7, 1930 – February 5, 2004) was a Republican politician and a former member of the Ohio General Assembly. Levey initially was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1962, representing the entirety of Butler County as an at-large district. He went on to win reelection in 1964. By 1966, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 had required state legislatures to have specific districts, and Levey won a seat to represent the new 39th House District. He was reelected to the seat in 1968. In 1970, Levey opted to not run for reelection to another term. In 1970, Levey, along with Buz Lukens, was mentioned as a potential successor to Walter E. Powell in the Ohio Senate. However, the seat ultimately went to Lukens. He went on to serve as a trustee for Miami University, and work in private practice as an attorney. George F. Lang is an American politician and businessperson. In 2021 he became the state senator for Ohio's 4th senatorial district. He was previously the representative for the 52nd District of the Ohio House of Representatives. Butler County is a county located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was 390,357. Its county seat is Hamilton. It is named for General Richard Butler, who died in 1791 during St. Clair's Defeat. Located along the Great Miami River, it is also home to Miami University, a public university founded in 1809. Ohio Senate
The Ohio Senate is the upper house of the Ohio General Assembly. The State Senate, which meets in the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, first convened in 1803. Senators are elected for four year terms, staggered every two years such that half of the seats are contested at each election. Even numbered seats and odd numbered seats are contested in separate election years. The president of the Ohio Senate presides over the body when in session, and is currently Matt Huffman.
