Ogden Whitney
John Ogden Whitney (May 1, 1919 – August 13, 1975) was an American comic-book artist and sometime writer active from the 1930s–1940s Golden Age of comics through the 1960s Silver Age of comics, Silver Age. He is best known as co-creator of the aviator hero Skyman (Columbia Comics), Skyman and of the superpowered novelty character Herbie Popnecker and his alter ego, the satiric superhero the Fat Fury. Whitney as well had long runs on characters as diverse as the Western comics, Western masked crime-fighter the Two-Gun Kid, and the career-girl character Millie the Model. In 2007, Whitney was one of two comics creators inducted into the comic-book industry's List of Eisner Award winners#The Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame, Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame, as a "Judges Choice". Westport is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States, along the Long Island Sound within Connecticut's Gold Coast. It is northeast of New York City. Columbia Comics Corporation was a comic book publisher active in the 1940s whose best-known title was ''Big Shot Comics''. Comics creators who worked for Columbia included Fred Guardineer, on ''Marvelo, the Monarch of Magicians''; and Ogden Whitney and Gardner Fox on Skyman.
