Ofer Eshed
Ofer Eshed ( he, עופר אשד; 1942-2007) was an Israeli basketball player and coach. He played and coached in the Israeli Basketball Premier League, and was third in the league in career scoring. He also played for and was Captain of the Israel national basketball team. Biography Eshed played for Hapoel Holon, Hapoel Tel Aviv, and Beitar Tel Aviv in 17 seasons from 1958 to 1978. In his highest-scoring season, in 1970, he average 29.9 points per game. He scored 7,758 career points, third-most in the history of the Israeli Basketball Premier League. He played for and was Captain of the Israel national basketball team. Ligat HaAl ( he, ליגת העל, lit., ''Supreme League or Premier League''), or the Israeli Basketball Premier League, is the top-tier level league of professional competition in Israeli club basketball, making it Israel's primary basketball competition. The league's name is abbreviated as either BSL (Basketball Super League) or ISBL (Israeli Basketball Super League). For sponsorship reasons, the league is also referred to as Ligat Winner Sal ( he, ליגת ווינר סל), lit. Israel participated in the 1966 Asian Games held in Bangkok, Thailand from 9 December to 20 December 1966. Israel had previously been unable to complete during the 1962 Asian Games when the host country Indonesia, refused to permit the participation of Israel due to political reasons, stating it would cause issues with their relationship with the Arab states. Although Thailand allowed Israel to participate in 1966, several Arab nations boycotted and riots broke out during the games. A gold medal is a medal awarded for highest achievement in a non-military field. Its name derives from the use of at least a fraction of gold in form of plating or alloying in its manufacture. Israel National Basketball Team
The Israel men's national basketball team ( he, נבחרת ישראל בכדורסל) represents Israel in international basketball tournaments. They are administered by the Israeli Basketball Association. Israel is currently ranked 33rd in the FIBA World Rankings. Israel has qualified for the EuroBasket 30 times throughout their history. They have also made two appearances at the World Cup, and one at the Summer Olympics. Israel also participated at the Asian Games from 1966 to 1974. The most success Israel has had on the international stage to date, is finishing as the runners-up at EuroBasket 1979, as well as winning two gold medals (1966, 1974), and one silver medal (1970) at the Asian Games. Hapoel Holon Basketball Club ( he, מועדון הכדורסל הפועל חולון), known for sponsorship reasons as Hapoel Atsmon Playgrounds Holon (), is a professional basketball club based in Holon, Israel. The team plays in the Israeli Basketball Premier League (the top tier of Israeli basketball), and internationally in the Basketball Champions League. The team was founded in 1947, and plays in the Holon Toto Hall, which is home to 5,500 spectators. One of Hapoel Holon's most notable title victories came in 2008, as the club pulled one of the biggest upsets in league history by defeating perennial champions Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Premier League final.
