Odon De Pins
Odo de Pins (1212 – 24 March 1296), also known as Eudes de Pin or Odon de Pins, was the twenty-third Grand Master of the Knights Hospitaller, serving from 1294 until his death in 1296, succeeding Jean de Villiers. He moved the headquarters of the Order to Limasso in modern-day Cyprus. Upon his death, he was succeeded by Guillaume de Villaret. Biography Odo de Pins was appointed Draper of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem on 7 October 1273. On 28 December 1287, he was appointed Marshal of the Order. He was elected to the magistracy of Grand Master between the end of 1293 and before 30 September 1294, when he presided over his first General Chapter as Grand Master in Limassol. As early as 1295, de Pins faced an internal crisis in the Order which was led by Boniface de Calamandrana, Grand Commander of Overseas and Guillaume de Villaret, then Prior of Saint-Gilles. Operation Epsom
Operation Epsom, also known as the First Battle of the Odon, was a British offensive in the Second World War between 26 and 30 June 1944, during the Battle of Normandy. The offensive was intended to outflank and seize the German-occupied city of Caen, an important Allied objective, in the early stages of Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of north-west Europe. Preceded by Operation Martlet to secure the right flank of the advance, Operation Epsom began early on 26 June, with units of the 15th (Scottish) Infantry Division advancing behind a rolling artillery barrage. Second Battle Of The Odon
The Second Battle of the Odon comprised operations fought by the British Second Army during the Second World War. Attacks took place in mid-July 1944 against Panzergruppe West, as part of the Battle of Normandy. Operations Greenline and Pomegranate were intended to draw German attention away from Operation Goodwood, an attack from the Orne bridgehead on 18 July. The British also wanted to prevent the Germans from withdrawing Panzer divisions opposite the Second Army to create an armoured reserve which could oppose the First US Army during the Operation Cobra breakout in the west.
