Odoardo Tabacchi
Odoardo Tabacchi (Valganna, 19 December 1836 - Milan, 23 March 1905) was an Italian sculptor. Biography He trained in the Brera Academy starting in 1845, from here he studied with other sculptors in Milan, Rome (where in 1851 he wins a three-year stipend), Florence, and Naples. From 1860 to 1868 he opened a studio in Milan, afterwards he moved to Turin, where he became professor of the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts. He was known for making copies of classic statuary, busts and reliefs. In 1870, in Parma he displayed a statue depicting: ''La Peri''. In 1872, he exhibited in Milan ''L Hypatria'' (Naples, 1877). He also completed a larger than life marble, later bronze, statue of ''Arnaldo da Brescia'', exhibited in Turin in 1880. He made a portrait of Michelangelo Buonarroti for the 1883 Roman Exhibition. Valganna
Valganna is a ''comune'' (municipality) within the Province of Varese in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 60 km northwest of Milan and about 13 km north of Varese. Davide Calandra
Davide Calandra (21 October 1856 – 8 September 1915) was an Italian sculptor and cabinet maker. Biography Davide Calandra was born in Turin into a wealthy family. His father, besides his professional activities of lawyer and hydraulic engineer, was an archaeologist and a well known collector of ancient weapons. Davide's eldest brother, the writer Edoardo Calandra, was a prominent author who wrote the novel ''La bufera'', an example of historical fiction. After attending the Liceo Calandra followed the art lectures of the Accademia Albertina and then joined as a volunteer the cavalry where he attained the military rank of '' Sottotenente'' ( Sub-Lieutenant). In 1878 he worked with his father and his brother to an excavation of the Lombard archaeological site of Testona (Moncalieri). Antonio Stuardi
Giovanni Antonio Stuardi (Poirino, Piedmont, 1862 -1938) was an Italian sculptor. Biography Born in Piemont, and active and resident in Turin. He was a pupil of Odoardo Tabacchi at the Accademia Albertina, and later of a sculptor Belli. He completed many of the funereal monuments in the cemeteries of Turin and other Piedmont towns, including bas-reliefs and portraits, among them, the stucco bust of Lupercus, exhibited at Turin, in 1884; and the statue: ''Savoia'', exhibited in Livorno, in 1886, and in Venice, in 1887, where he exhibited: ''Flower of the countryside''. In 1889, he displayed a statue of ''Charity'' at the Promotrice of Turin, which was acquired by the King. Leonardo Bistolfi
Leonardo Bistolfi (14 March 1859 – 2 September 1933) was an Italian sculptor and an important exponent of Italian Symbolism (arts), Symbolism. Biography Bistolfi was born in Casale Monferrato in Piedmont, north-west Italy, to Giovanni Bistolfi, a sculptor in wood, and to Angela Amisano. Giovanni died at the age of 26 years, when Leonardo was still a boy. In 1876 he enrolled in the Brera Art Academy in Milan, where his teacher was Giosuè Argenti. In 1880 he studied under Odoardo Tabacchi at the Accademia Albertina in Turin. Work His first works, executed between 1880 and 1885, show the influence of the Milanese ''Scapigliatura'' movement. Emmanuel Villanis (12 December 1858 - 28 August 1914) was a French sculptor. He was born in Lille, France, and died in Paris. He studied at the Accademia Albertina in Turin, where one of his teachers was Odoardo Tabacchi.
