Odessa Railways
Odesa Railways is a rail operator in Ukraine. It is a territorial branch company of Ukrainian Railways. Main information It lies on the territory of six Oblasts of Ukraine: Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad and Vinnytsia. Odesa railways account for about 20% of freight and more than 16% of passenger traffic of Railways of Ukraine. In the region of Odesa Railways there are large sea and river ports, which ensure high traffic load. Odesa Railway Station
Odesa-Holovna railway station ( uk, Одеса-Головна) is the main train station in Odesa in southern Ukraine. It was built in the second half of the 19th century. It was damaged in 1944 during World War II and was rebuilt in 1952. It is situated in the city center of Odesa. History The first building of Odesa Railway Station was "П"-shaped. It's shorter part faced the station square, continuing the axis of Pushkinska Street. Trains entered the station between the longer side buildings. Between the buildings, platforms were placed and they ended in front of the shorter building. Such a terminus was formed because Odesa was, at that time, the end of the line next to the Black Sea. Station building collapsed during World War II in 1944. It was restored in 1952 according to A.M. Chuprin's project (instead of the destroyed one during the fascist occupation of Odesa). Ovidiopol ( uk, Ові́діополь; russian: Овидиополь; tr, Hacıdere) is a coastal urban-type settlement in Odesa Oblast, Ukraine. Southwestern Railways (PZZ), ( uk, Південно-Західна залізниця) headquartered in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, is a component part of the Ukrzaliznytsia company, its regional branch. It is named "Southwestern" because it is Southwest of Moscow, despite being in the Northern part of Ukraine. Kuchurhan ( ua, Кучурган) is a village in Rozdilna Raion of Odesa Oblast in Ukraine. It is located along the Kuchurhan River at the north end of the Cuciurgan Reservoir along the border with Transnistria in Moldova. It is the site of highway, rail, and power line border crossings between Ukraine and Moldova. History The village was established in 1808 as Strassburg by Catholic Church, Roman Catholic Black Sea Germans, German and French Alsatian immigrants to the Kutschurgan Valley, then part of the Russian Empire. It received its present name in 1944 after the remaining German residents were driven from the area by the advancing Soviet Union, Soviet army.
