Octagon is an unincorporated community in Marengo County, Alabama, United States. Octagon had a post office at one time, but it no longer exists. History The community of Octagon obtained its name from the Bethlehem Baptist Church. The first building for this church was an octagonal structure, built by George Washington Barkley and his sons after the American Civil War. Area code 334 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for southeastern Alabama. It was created on January 15, 1995, in an area code split from area code 205. and was the first new area code in Alabama since the implementation of area codes in 1947.
