Macon, Georgia
Macon ( ), officially Macon–Bibb County, is a consolidated city-county in the U.S. state of Georgia. Situated near the fall line of the Ocmulgee River, it is located southeast of Atlanta and lies near the geographic center of the state of Georgia—hence the city's nickname, "The Heart of Georgia". Macon had a population of 157,346 in the year 2020. It is the principal city of the Macon Metropolitan Statistical Area, which had a population of 233,802 in 2020. Amerson River Park
Amerson River Park, also known as Amerson Water Works Park, is an urban park in Macon, Georgia. The park was closed after the flood of 1994. In 2015, the park was re-opened and named Amerson River Park after renovations were made costing 5.5 million dollars. Description The park borders the Ocmulgee River and spans over 180 acres of land. The trail runs from east to west with different areas of the park at multiple points. The park is surrounded by forest land, meadows, and wetlands. There are 7 miles of paved walking trail. The park has 6 different areas for use. There are 3 pavilions, 2 open grassy areas, 1 overlook and 1 handicap accessible playground. Hitchiti
The Hitchiti ( ) were a historic indigenous tribe in the Southeast United States. They formerly resided chiefly in a town of the same name on the east bank of the Chattahoochee River, four miles below Chiaha, in western present-day Georgia. The natives possessed a narrow strip of good land bordering on the river. The Hitchiti had a reputation of being honest and industrious. Their autonym was possibly ''Atcik-hata'', while the Coushatta knew them as the ''At-pasha-shliha'', "mean people". Under pressure from European Americans, the Hitchiti moved into Florida. While some survived there, others signed a treaty for their land in exchange for lands in Indian Territory, and were forced west. English "Hitchiti" was Spanish "Achito". Lumber City is a city located in Telfair County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a total population of 967. History The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Lumber City as a town in 1889. The community was named for a sawmill near the original town site. Geography Lumber City is located at 31°55'48" North, 82°41'1" West (31.930033, -82.683723). U.S. Route 23/341 is the main route through the city, and leads northwest 17 mi (27 km) to McRae-Helena, the Telfair County seat, and southeast 7 mi (11 km) to Hazlehurst.
