Oceanic (Isis Album)
''Oceanic'' is the second full-length album by American post-metal band ISIS, released on September 17, 2002, by Ipecac Recordings. On November 4, 2014, a remastered edition was released via Hydrahead/Ipecac Recordings. On July 23, 2006, Isis performed ''Oceanic'' in its entirety at KOKO, Camden Town, London as part of the All Tomorrow's Parties curated Don't Look Back series. This performance was recorded and eventually released in 2009 as ''Live V''. The track "Weight" was used in the 20th episode of the 1st season of the 2007 television series '' Friday Night Lights. Themes and concept The album themes are considered to be an expansion on the bands 1999 EP The Red Sea, which includes themes of water throughout, death, emotional detachment, incest, and suicide. An album is a collection of audio recordings issued on compact disc (CD), vinyl, audio tape, or another medium such as digital distribution. Albums of recorded sound were developed in the early 20th century as individual 78 rpm records collected in a bound book resembling a photograph album; this format evolved after 1948 into single vinyl long-playing (LP) records played at rpm. Live V
''Live V'' is Isis's fifth live release. This live album is unique for Isis in that it is a soundboard recording taken from a single live performance. The show was performed on July 23, 2006, at Koko's in London for All Tomorrow's Parties' '' Don't Look Back'' series of concerts, where artists are invited to perform one of their albums in its entirety. Isis were asked to perform ''Oceanic''. As with the rest of the live series, the CD version was self-released, while the album was released on vinyl by Viva Hate Records. Along with all Isis' other live albums, it is set to be re-released on July 26, 2011 in digital format, almost a full year after Isis' dissolution. It marks the fifth and final of the series released to a fortnightly schedule. ''Stylus Magazine'' was an American online music and film magazine, launched in 2002 and co-founded by Todd L. Burns. It featured long-form music journalism, four daily music reviews, movie reviews, podcasts, an MP3 blog, and a text blog. Additionally, ''Stylus'' had daily features like "The Singles Jukebox", which looked at pop singles from around the globe, and "Soulseeking", a column focused on personal responses in listening. ''Ox-Fanzine'' is a monthly punk zine from Solingen, Germany, founded in 1988. It is edited by Joachim Hiller and has had many contributors. Besides its focus on punk subculture, it also covers similar genres, reviews of comics, books and films, and has included serial novels by authors such as Klaus N. Frick. By 2019, ''Ox'' had a circulation of 10,000 copies. History ''Ox-Fanzine'' was founded in 1988 by Joachim Hiller and Biggi Häußler in Heidenheim an der Brenz (Southern Germany). Its first issue was published in January 1989. The zine was named after the cat of Häußler, which appeared on the first cover.
