Borough (New Jersey)
A borough (also spelled boro), in the context of local government in the U.S. state of New Jersey, refers to one of five ''types'' and one of eleven ''forms'' of municipal government (in addition to those established under a Special Charter). Though it is now the most common form of local government in New Jersey, by 1875 only 17 boroughs had been created, all by special acts of the legislature. These original boroughs were ''subdivisions'' of townships, established by state charter; Elizabeth was the first, established by royal charter in 1740, within the now defunct Elizabeth Township. About half of them had been dissolved, or changed into other forms of government—often cities. George Washington

Van Allen House
The Van Allen House is located in Oakland, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The house was built around 1740 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 24, 1973. History The Van Allen House was built around 1740 as the home of farmer Hendrik Van Allen. During the Revolutionary War, it served as the headquarters for George Washington on July 14, 1777. At the time, he was moving his troops from Morristown, New Jersey to New York. In 1778 and 1779, Bergen County used the house as a court. Edward Day Page, dairy farmer, businessman, and Oakand's second mayor, owned the house as well as the northern fourth of Oakland in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. It was saved from demolition by the Oakland Historical society with aid from the Woman's Club of Oakland. It is now maintained as a museum displaying colonial Dutch life. Wyckoff is a township in Bergen County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 16,585. At the time of the 2010 census, the township's population was 16,696, reflecting an increase of 188 (+1.1%) from the 16,508 counted in the 2000 census, which had in turn increased by 1,136 (+7.4%) from the 15,372 counted in 1990. The United States census of 2000, conducted by the Census Bureau, determined the resident population of the United States on April 1, 2000, to be 281,421,906, an increase of 13.2 percent over the 248,709,873 people enumerated during the 1990 census. The United States census of 2010 was the twenty-third United States national census. National Census Day, the reference day used for the census, was April 1, 2010. The census was taken via mail-in citizen self-reporting, with enumerators serving to spot-check randomly selected neighborhoods and communities.
