Oah
"Oah" is a song by Belarusian-Norway, Norwegian singer–songwriter Alexander Rybak. It is the first single released from his second album ''No Boundaries (Alexander Rybak album), No Boundaries''. It was released on 8 June 2010. Background Rybak wrote the song as an ode to one of his female backing singers, called Moa, as he wrote an ode to each of his three backing singers on his second album ''No Boundaries''. Rybak started dating her in early 2010. The two broke off shortly after the release of the song. In 2014, Rybak stated that he did not regret the song, but would not do such a thing again necessarily. Critical reception "Oah" was met with mostly unfavourable reviews in Norway. ''Dagbladet'' gave it a 1 on the dice throw (review), dice, stating it did "(...) not surprise, have the exotic x-factor or, under any circumstances, be funny. Alexander Igorevich Rybak (russian: Александр Игоревич Рыбак) or Alyaxandr Iharavich Rybak ( be, Аляксандр Ігаравіч Рыбак; born 13 May 1986) is a Belarusian-Norwegian singer-composer, violinist, pianist and actor. Based in Oslo, Rybak extensively worked on television programs and on tours in Norway, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Sweden throughout the early 2010s. Singing in mainly English, Russian and Norwegian, Rybak, in his early twenties, held on to a teen idol status in Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, and to a certain extent in Western Asia. Øivind Elgenes alias "Elg" (born 13 February 1958 in Kristiansund, Norway) is a Norwegian vocalist, guitarist and composer, known from a series of recordings and as front figure of the Norwegian band Dance with a Stranger. Career Elgenes was raised in Kristiansund together with musicians Lynni Treekrem and Frode Alnæs. With the latter he started the pop band Dance with a Stranger in 1984, and they released five albums. ''No Boundaries'' is the second studio album by the Belarusian-Norwegian artist Alexander Rybak, released on 14 June 2010. Background It was recorded in Yla Studios in Malmö. The album include three songs dedicated to his workmates: "Oah", "Why Not Me" and "First Kiss". It also has a tribute to Finland, "Suomi". "5000 Letters" seemingly reflects the letters Rybak received from fans. Another spoken track, "Kaja's Letter" is a letter Rybak found special and was voice by a small Norwegian girl named Kaja. Due to the album's crossover nature, Rybak was sure that the album would be slaughtered by music critics upon its release. Critical reception The album was met with mixed reviews. A Slowak music critic gave the album overall a favourable review, but noted that the chaos that surrounded Rybak and his organisational management could hinder the album's performances.
