ORP Kormoran (601)
ORP Kormoran (601) – a lead ship of Polish Navy's Kormoran II class MCMVs. She was laid down on 23 September 2014, launched on 4 September 2015 at Remontowa Shipbuilding yard in Gdańsk and commissioned on 28 November 2017. Her non-magnetic 58.5 meters in length hull was made from austenitic steel. She has 830 tons of standard displacement. ''Kormoran'' employs sophisticated mine countermeasures including underwater drones. The ship serves in the 13 Minesweeper Squadron, belonging to 8th Coastal Defence Flotilla. Schottel (company)
Schottel is a manufacturer of propulsion and steering systems for ships and offshore applications. The company founder Josef Becker invented the rudderpropeller, a z-drive, in 1950. Today the company develops and manufactures azimuth propulsion, maneuvering and steering systems. In 2014 the subsidiary Schottel Hydro was founded to bundle up the company activities in the hydrokinetic energy segment. Andrzej Karweta
Andrzej Karweta (11 June 1958 – 10 April 2010) was rear admiral (NATO code OF-7) of the Polish Navy and its commander-in-chief from November 2007 until his death in April 2010 in the Smolensk air crash. He was posthumously promoted to the rank of admiral (NATO code OF-9). Biography Andrzej Karweta was born in Jeleń village (part of Jaworzno since 1977). Ewa Bożena Kopacz (; given name, née Lis; born 3 December 1956) is a Polish politician who has served as a Vice-President of the European Parliament since 2019. The 8th Coastal Defense Flotilla ( pl, 8 Flotylla Obrony Wybrzeża also known as 8th Coastal Defense Flotilla Vice admiral Kazimierz Porębski, a Polish navy fleet of coastal defense ships based in Świnoujście, one of the three naval groups of the Navy. A naval mine is a self-contained explosive device placed in water to damage or destroy surface ships or submarines. Unlike depth charges, mines are deposited and left to wait until they are triggered by the approach of, or contact with, any vessel or a particular vessel type, akin to anti-infantry vs. anti-vehicle mines. Naval mines can be used offensively, to hamper enemy shipping movements or lock vessels into a harbour; or defensively, to protect friendly vessels and create "safe" zones. Displacement (ship)
The displacement or displacement tonnage of a ship is its weight. As the term indicates, it is measured indirectly, using Archimedes' principle, by first calculating the volume of water displaced by the ship, then converting that value into weight. Traditionally, various measurement rules have been in use, giving various measures in long tons. Today, tonnes are more commonly used. Ship displacement varies by a vessel's degree of load, from its empty weight as designed (known as "lightweight tonnage") to its maximum load.
