Sōichi Ōya
was a Japanese journalist noted for his research and commentaries on popular culture. Biography Born in what is now part of Takatsuki, Osaka, Japan where his father was a soy sauce brewer, Ōya showed an early interest in social issues, and after dropping out of the University of Tokyo, he became involved in the Japan Fabian Society (a gradualist Socialist group). He was also active as a literary essayist and founded the Mass Communication Juku (マスコミ塾, literally the "Mass Communication Workshop"). His legacy includes the Oya Soichi Nonfiction Award, which recognizes the contributions of young journalists, and the Ōya Sōichi Library, a library that is the major archive in Japan collecting popular publications that most institutions ignore. Shinzō Ōya
was an entrepreneur and politician, who served as Minister of Commerce and Industry in post-war Japan. Ōya was born in what is now part of the town of Meiwa in Gunma Prefecture, where his father was a high school principal and his grandfather had been a samurai in the service of Kawagoe Domain. He graduated from what later became Hitotsubashi University in 1918. On graduation he joined the ''zaibatsu'' Suzuki Shoten, and from 1925 went to work for Teijin, eventually becoming its president in November 1945. In his early career, he was praised as a charismatic manager, who introduced new synthetic fibers which made Teijin a market leader in the fabric industry. However, he later was criticized for over-diversification, and for his refusal to surrender authority over the company despite his obvious mental decline in old age, which led Teijin to the brink of bankruptcy. Kenichi Oya (大矢健一) (born July 2, 1964) is a semi-retired Japanese professional wrestler, better known by his ring name Hisakatsu Oya (大矢剛功). Although he started out for New Japan Pro-Wrestling, he is well known for his stint in Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling. Career New Japan Pro-Wrestling (1986–1989) Kenichi Oya trained at the NJPW Dojo. He made his wrestling debut in April 1986, against Masahiro Chono. During his tenure in New Japan, Oya also teamed with the likes of Kensuke Sasaki and Osamu Matsuda. However, due to injuries, he retired in 1989.
