Oxford–Cambridge Arc
The Oxford–Cambridge Arc or Oxford–Cambridge Growth Corridor (formerly the Cambridge – Milton Keynes – Oxford corridor) is a notional arc of agricultural and urban land at about radius of London, in south central England. It runs between the British university cities of Oxford and Cambridge via Milton Keynes and other settlements in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire at the northern rim of the London commuter belt. It is significant only in economic geography, with little physical geography in common. The original Oxford to Cambridge (O2C) Arc initiative was launched in 2003 by three English regional development agencies (RDAs), EEDA, EMDA and SEEDA. East West Rail
East West Rail (or the East West Main Line, EWML) is a strategic aim to establish a new main line railway between East Anglia and Oxfordshire. The immediate plan is to build (or rebuild) a line linking Oxford and Cambridge via Bicester, Milton Keynes (at Bletchley) and Bedford, largely using the trackbed of the former Varsity Line. Thus it provides a potential route between any or all of the Great Western, Cotswold, Chiltern, West Coast, Midland, East Coast, West Anglia and Great Eastern main lines, avoiding London. National Infrastructure Commission
The National Infrastructure Commission was an executive agency responsible for providing expert advice to the UK Government on infrastructure challenges facing the UK, between 2015 and April 2025, when it was superseded by the National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority (NISTA). Inaugurated in 2015, and established as an executive agency of HM Treasury in January 2017, one of the Commission's main tasks was to undertake a national infrastructure assessment during each Parliament. South East England Development Agency
The South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) was one of a number of regional development agencies in England. It was set up as a non-departmental public body in 1999 to promote the region and to enable a number of more difficult regeneration projects which otherwise might not take place. It covered Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, East Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey and West Sussex The government announced that SEEDA was due to close by 31 March 2012, along with the other RDAs (regional development agencies). East Midlands Development Agency
east midlands development agency, abbreviated emda, was the regional development agency for the East Midlands region of England formed in 1999 and dissolved in 2012. Structure and function emda’s office was located next to a Premier Inn, BBC East Midlands (and Radio Nottingham), and the NHS walk-in centre on ''London Road'' on a roundabout called 'Boots Island' on the A60. From April 2010, the functions of the former East Midlands Regional Assembly were transferred to emda. The Chairman of the Board of emda was Dr Bryan Jackson OBE. The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) was a non-departmental public body and the regional development agency for the East of England region of England. It came into operation on 1 April 1999 and assumed the regional powers of English Partnerships, the Rural Development Commission and the SRB Challenge Fund. The total budget for 2005/06 was £140 million. From 2010 many of the powers that were vested in the East of England Regional Assembly were passed to the EEDA and to local authorities. Regional Development Agency
In the United Kingdom, regional development agencies (RDAs) were nine non-departmental public body, non-departmental public bodies established for the purpose of development, primarily economic, of England's Government Offices for the English Regions, Government Office regions between 1998 and 2010. There was one RDA for each of the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics, NUTS level 1 regions of England. Similar activities were carried out in Wales by the Welsh Government Department of Economy and Transport, in Northern Ireland by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment and in Scotland by Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
