Owen Valley Community High School
Owen Valley Community High School, also known as "OVHS", is a public high school located in Spencer, Indiana. History Built in 1971, OVHS is the result of a consolidation of several smaller schools located within Owen County. The three schools that were merged to make Owen Valley High School are Patricksburg High School, Spencer High School, and Gosport High School. The merger of these highschools is the namesake of the school paper. Additionally, those former high schools are now elementary schools. In fall of 2003, ground was broken on the renovation and additions that have been made to the OVHS. The class of 2003 was the last to graduate from the original 1971 building. The gift from the senior class in 2003 was a cornerstone made of limestone from the Bybee Bros. Stone Quarry in Ellettsville, Indiana for the new addition and can be viewed from the front of the building. The Cornerstone was written by graduating Class Secretary Thomas Barnett. Spencer, Indiana
Spencer is a town in Washington Township, Owen County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 2,217 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Owen County. Spencer is part of the Bloomington, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Spencer was platted in 1820, and named for Captain Spier Spencer, who fell at the Battle of Tippecanoe, after whom Spencer County is also named. A post office has been in operation at Spencer since 1821. The current building was constructed with New Deal funds in 1938. The Allison-Robinson House, David Enoch Beem House, Owen County Courthouse, Spencer Public Library, and Spencer Town Hall and Fire Station are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Owen County is a county in the U.S. state of Indiana. In 1920 the United States Census Bureau calculated the mean center of U.S. population to fall within this county. As of the 2010 United States Census, it had a population of 21,575. Its county seat is Spencer. Owen County is part of the Bloomington, Indiana, Metropolitan Statistical Area. Western Indiana Conference
The Western Indiana Conference is the name of two IHSAA-sanctioned conferences based in West Central Indiana. The first formed as an eight-team league that formed as a basketball league in 1944 as the West Central Conference. The league started expanding in 1945 and changed its name to the Western Indiana Conference. With consolidation forcing many membership changes in the 1970s (including all the Terre Haute public schools), the conference folded at four members in 1983. The second incarnation started in 1999, including four previous members (or their current incarnations) from the old conference, and three other schools from South Central Indiana.
