Overtown (Miami)
Overtown is a neighborhood of Miami, Florida, United States, just northwest of Downtown Miami. Originally called Colored Town in the Jim Crow era of the late 19th through the mid-20th century, the area was once the preeminent and is the historic center for commerce in the black community in Miami and South Florida. It is bound by NW 20th Street to the north, NW 5th Street to the south, the Miami River, Dolphin Expressway (SR 836), and I-95 (north of the Midtown Interchange) to the west, and the Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) and NW 1st Avenue to the east. Local residents often go by the demonym "Towners". History A part of the historic heart of Miami, it was designated as a "colored" neighborhood after the creation and incorporation of Miami in 1896. Burrow-with-Burrow is a civil parish in the English county of Lancashire. The parish of Burrow-with-Burrow had a population of 191 recorded in the 2001 census, decreasing to 182 at the 2011 Census. It is on the River Lune south of the Cumbrian town Kirkby Lonsdale. Administratively it forms part of the City of Lancaster, Lancaster itself being some away. Settlements in the parish include Nether Burrow, Over Burrow, Overtown and Cowan Bridge. The parish is sometimes referred to as "Burrow" for brevity. History Roman pavements, altars, inscriptions, urns, and coins have been found here; and a Roman milestone is on the road. In 1086, the Domesday Book listed under Craven: ''Torntun & in Borch, Orm vi curactes ad geld.'' (Thornton-in-Lonsdale with Burrow-with-Burrow Orm has c720 acres /290ha of plough-land to be taxed.) Overtown, North Lanarkshire
Overtown is a village in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is located to the east of the River Clyde, about south of Wishaw. Originally developed as a mining village in the 19th century, its population declined after the closure of the coal mines and the associated railways in the 1950s. The village only has a few buildings of note, Clyde Valley High School, located to the North-West, and Overtown Primary School which was closed in 2016. Overtown also has a community centre, a parish Church which serves as a focal point for the community and a small number of independent shops and takeaway restaurants. A "First Glasgow" (the former "Hutchison") bus depot is located in the village. The A71 road, that links Edinburgh with Ayrshire, passes through Overtown. The road is the main street of the village.
