Overlord (1994 Video Game)
''Overlord'' is a combat flight simulator by Rowan Software. It was released in 1994 for Amiga and PC MS-DOS platforms. Gameplay It is based on Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of continental Europe during World War II. The player is tasked with flying a series of historically accurate missions for the Royal Air Force, flying Spitfire IX, Hawker Typhoon, and Mustang III aircraft. Reception ''Next Generation'' reviewed the PC version of the game, rating it three stars out of five, and stated that "''D-Day: Operation Overlord'' doesn't play any better than other flight sims that are already available ..This title is strictly for WW II buffs or flight-sim fanatics." Rowan Software
Rowan Software was a British software company focused on the development of computer games. The company was founded by Rod Hyde in 1987 and based in Runcorn, Cheshire. Rowan was best known as a publisher of flight simulators for the personal computer, PC. The company was involved with a number of publishers including Mirrorsoft, Mindscape (company), Mindscape, Spectrum Holobyte, Virgin Group, Virgin, and Empire Interactive. Rowan's involvement with Mirrorsoft included development of the strategy/role-playing title Duster which collapsed when Mirrorsoft was declared bankrupt. ''PC Format'' was a computer magazine published in the United Kingdom by Future plc, and licensed to other publishers in countries around the world. ''The One'' was a video game magazine in the United Kingdom which covered 16-bit home gaming during the late 1980s and early 1990s. It was first published by EMAP in October 1988 and initially covered computer games aimed at the Atari ST, Amiga, and IBM PC compatible markets. Like many similar magazines, it contained sections of news, game reviews, previews, tips, help guides, columnist writings, readers' letters, and cover-mounted disks of game demos. The magazine was sometimes criticised for including "filler" content such as articles on Arnold Schwarzenegger with the justification that an upcoming film had a computer game tie-in.
