Drover (Australian)
A drover in Australia is a person, typically an experienced stockman, who moves livestock, usually sheep, cattle, and horses "on the hoof" over long distances. Reasons for droving may include: delivering animals to a new owner's property, taking animals to market, or moving animals during a drought in search of better feed and/or water or in search of a yard to work on the livestock. The drovers who covered very long distances to open up new country were known as " overlanders". Method Moving a small mob of quiet cattle is relatively easy, but moving several hundreds or thousands head of wild station cattle over long distances is a very different matter. Overlander (train)
The Overlander was a long-distance rail passenger train between Auckland and Wellington in the North Island of New Zealand, along the North Island Main Trunk (NIMT). It was operated by Tranz Scenic. The service was replaced from 25 June 2012, by the ''Northern Explorer''. The Overlander replaced a previous service operated by RM class ''Silver Fern'' railcars on Monday 2 December 1991. Following the withdrawal of the overnight '' Northerner'', it was the only regular passenger train on the NIMT between Pukekohe and Palmerston North. After being threatened with cessation itself in 2006, it gained significantly in popularity, partly because of increased tourism promotion for the service. Overlanders is a residential neighbourhood in the Hermitage area of northeast Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The neighbourhood is bounded on the east by Victoria Trail, on the south by Yellowhead Trail, and on the north by Kennedale Ravine. To the south of Hermitage Road, the western boundary is approximately half a block west of 11 Avenue. North of Hermitage Road, the western boundary follows Hooke Road and Homestead Crescent. Hermitage Road passes through the neighbourhood. Residents have access to the Edmonton LRT system at Belvedere station to the west of the neighbourhood. ''The Overlanders'' is a 1946 British-Australian Western film about drovers driving a large herd of cattle 1,600 miles overland from Wyndham, Western Australia through the Northern Territory outback of Australia to pastures north of Brisbane, Queensland during World War II. The film was the first of several produced in Australia by Ealing Studios, and featured among the cast Chips Rafferty. It was an early example of the genre later dubbed the "meat pie western". Plot In 1942, the Japanese army is thrusting southwards and Australia fears invasion. The Overlanders were a British music group active during the 1960s. Career Originally playing folk songs, the band found success hard to come by during the beat era and so converted to a more mainstream sound. In 1964, they had a regional hit in the Chicago area of the United States, and in Australia, with a cover of "Don't It Make You Feel Good", a song written and recorded by The Shadows in UK. That same year, their rendition of Chad Stuart's " Yesterday's Gone" received much airplay in the US and became a minor hit. Although they released twelve singles on the Pye record label between 1963 and 1966, the Overlanders' only British hit was a cover version of the Beatles' " Michelle". Overlander Mountain is a summit in British Columbia, Canada. Description Overlander Mountain, elevation 2,687-meters (8,816-feet), is located in Mount Robson Provincial Park, just south and within view of the park's visitor centre. It is the sixth-highest peak in the Selwyn Range, which is a subrange of the Canadian Rockies. Precipitation runoff from the peak drains into tributaries of the Fraser River. Topographic relief is significant as the summit rises 1,850 meters (6,070 ft) above the river in . The Yellowhead Highway (Highway 16) and Canadian National Railway traverse around the northern base of the mountain. Overlanding is self-reliant overland travel to remote destinations where the journey is the principal goal.
