Overgangsklasse (cricket)
The Overgangsklasse is the fourth highest domestic cricket competition in the Netherlands. There are two pools, Overgangsklasse A (OVA) and Overgangsklasse B (OVB) playing in the regular competition. Eerste Klasse (cricket)
The Eerste Klasse is the third highest domestic cricket competition in the Netherlands. Eight teams play in the regular competition. Although the direct translation from the Dutch name to English would be "First Class", it is not associated with what is recognised as first class cricket by the International Cricket Council. Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond
The Royal Dutch Cricket Association (Dutch: Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond, KNCB) is the governing body of cricket in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It was formed in 1890 and received a Royal charter in 1958. Limited Overs Cricket
Limited overs cricket, also known as one-day cricket or white ball cricket, is a version of the sport of cricket in which a match is generally completed in one day. There are a number of formats, including List A cricket (8-hour games), Twenty20 cricket (3-hour games), and 100-ball cricket (2.5 hours). The name reflects the rule that in the match each team bowls a set maximum number of overs (sets of 6 legal balls), usually between 20 and 50, although shorter and longer forms of limited overs cricket have been played. The concept contrasts with Test and first-class matches, which can take up to five days to complete. Topklasse (cricket)
The Topklasse (known until 2010 as the Hoofdklasse) is the highest domestic 50-over cricket competition in the Netherlands. Until 2016 the league featured 8 teams playing in a double round-robin format, followed by relegation and championship play-offs. From 2017 the league reverted to a simple ten-team double round-robin format. The dominant club in terms of league titles has been HCC (Hague Cricket Club). Based in The Hague the club was formed in 1878 and won the first Dutch title in 1884. As of 2018, the club has won 48 Topklasse titles, most recently in 2008. The club was so dominant in Dutch cricket in the years after World War I that its Second XI was allowed to play in the top division and won the title five times between 1928 and 1935 - as well as sharing the title with the HCC First XI in 1926. The Tweede Klasse ( en, Second Class) is the seventh tier of football in the Netherlands and the fifth tier of Dutch amateur football. The league is divided into 22 divisions, 10 played on Saturday and 12 on Sunday. Each division consists of 14 teams. Cricket In The Netherlands
Cricket has been played in the Netherlands since at least the 19th century, and in the 1860s was considered a major sport in the country. The sport is governed by the Royal Dutch Cricket Association. Other sports (notably football) have long since surpassed cricket in popularity amongst the Dutch but today there are around 6,500 cricketers in the Netherlands and recent developments show that cricket is growing in Netherlands. The first national association, the forerunner of today's KNCB, was formed in 1883, and the Netherlands achieved associate membership of the ICC in 1966.
