"Over My Shoulder" is a pop rock song by British rock supergroup Mike + The Mechanics. It was released on 13 February 1995 as the first single from their fourth album, ''Beggar on a Beach of Gold'' (1995). Written by Paul Carrack and Mike Rutherford and sung by Carrack, it was the most successful single from that album, peaking at number 12 on UK Singles Chart. It became the band's only hit in certain European countries, including Switzerland and France; in the latter country, it reached number nine and spent 20 weeks in the top 50. Critical reception Steve Baltin from ''Cash Box'' noted that the song "has received many generous reviews." But he felt that "there’s little imagination to this song, and the programmed rhythm has even managed to take the soul out of Paul Carracks blue-eyed vocals. ''Over My Shoulder'' is Mel Parsons' debut album, released on 9 March 2009 on Cape Road Recordings. Parsons returned to New Zealand to start work on her debut album in 2007. The album was written by Parsons, and recorded with co-producer Shaun Elley and her backing band The Rhythm Kings, along with support from Don McGlashan, The Sami Sisters, Lisa Tomlins, and Neil Watson. Parsons created her own label, Cape Road Recordings, so she could release her album independently while using the New Zealand music firm Border Music for distribution. The album was nominated for the Tui NZ Music Award's Folk Album of the Year. Over My Shoulder (I Am Kloot Song)
"Over My Shoulder" is I Am Kloot's highest-charting single to date, reaching #38 on the UK charts in 2005. It preceded the album ''Gods And Monsters'' which charted lower than their previous album ''I Am Kloot''. The song itself was first released on the Wall of Sound compilation album ''We Love You... So Love Us Too'' and re-recorded for the '' Gods and Monsters'' album. The CD added two B-sides that were originally intended for the cancelled "Proof" single. "Great Escape" is John Bramwell performing on his own with his acoustic guitar, an old song from his solo Johnny Dangerously days and the final B-side "Junk Culture" is a band effort, once again an old Johnny Dangerously song updated. On the 7-inch vinyl single "Stop Taking Photographs" is a short solo acoustic performance by John Bramwell, in the vein of "No Fear of Falling" or "Astray". ''Life in Cartoon Motion'' is the debut album released by British recording artist Mika. The album was produced by Greg Wells, mixed by Wells, with co-production on two songs by Jodi Marr and John Merchant. The album was released via Casablanca Records on 5 February 2007 in the United Kingdom, and on 27 March 2007 in the United States. ''Life in Cartoon Motion'' was the #9 top selling album in the world in 2007. The album's lead single, "Grace Kelly", stayed at number one on the UK Singles Chart for five consecutive weeks and became a worldwide number-one hit. Background Prior to obtaining his record deal, Mika sent demos to many record companies in Britain, but was never signed. One record label in particular claimed that Mika had a good voice, but insisted he write more conventional songs like Robbie Williams in order to become more commercial. Mika rejected this advice.
