The ''Guardian'' newspaper thought the songs "beautifully wrought and not without its own kind of gentle surprises", and ''MusicOMH'' called it "the sound of a woman reborn...her best album yet". The BBC, however, suggested "it feels over produced, undercooked, slipping through one ear and falling out the other." ''Relations'' is an album of cover versions by Kathryn Williams, released by CAW Records on 17 May 2004. The album was a BBC Radio 2 Album Of The Week, and peaked at no.76 in the UK albums chart. The two live tracks, 'Hallelujah' & 'These Days' were recorded live at the Open Air Theatre, Regents Park, London on 10 August 2003 Williams admitted in an interview with ''The Independent'' newspaper ''"''I don't even like covers albums" but that "I'm not trying to better the originals or debase their talent ....more a case of trying subtly to put your stamp on what you consider a brilliant song" The album received mixed reviews with ''The Guardian'' concluding "The originals were better" and ''UNCUT'' magazine called it "an unusual album of cover versions". ''Leave to Remain'' is the sixth studio album by Kathryn Williams released on CAW Records on 1 October 2006. It was her first to feature Kate St John who would produce her next solo album, ''The Quickening'', in 2010. The track 'Stevie' on the album refers to the poet and novelist Stevie Smith with its chorus echoing the title of her poem ' Not Waving But Drowning' . Kathryn Williams (born 15 February 1974, Liverpool, England) is an English singer-songwriter who to date has released 14 studio albums, written and arranged for a multitude of artists, and was nominated for the 2000 Mercury Music Prize. Williams released her first album, '' Dog Leap Stairs'', on her own Caw Records label in 1999 with a budget of £80. The follow-up, '' Little Black Numbers'', garnered a Mercury Prize nomination in 2000, bringing her to the attention of a wider public. Williams has collaborated and recorded with artists including Chris Difford, Ted Barnes, Thea Gilmore, John Martyn, Joel Salakula, Tobias Froberg, Ed Harcourt, James Yorkston, Marry Waterson, Boo Hewerdine, and Paul Smith.
